James Reed Sr.

James Alexander Reed, Sr., age 62, resident of Autumn Lakes Nursing Home in Chestertown, MD, was born on June 17, 1954 in Callao, Virginia to the late Elizabeth Stowers (Reed) and Paul Veney, Sr. ON August 12, 2016, James, better known as Heavy, departed his life on earth to eternal life with the Lord, at Compass Hospice in Centreville, MD. Heavy moved to Maryland when he was 16, attended 1 to 2 years in Queen Anne’s County High School. He then started his employment as a waterman in the late 70’s. He later started a new career as a truck driver for George Hill Seaford for ten years, whom later became his father-in-law. In 1984 he married Barbara Jean Hill. They were divorced in 2007. When he moved to Washington, DC, he continued his career as a truck driver for a small company. He attended Saint Joseph Baptist Church in Washington, DC. During his time of employment, Heavy’s life was turned around once he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. James (Heavy Chevy) as some call him, will always be remembered for his joyful smile and his blissful laughter that was so uplifting that his mom would ask at times, “Boy are you alright?” He loved sitting around with his family talking about all the crazy things they did when he was a kid. He had a love for cars and enjoyed attending the car races. His favorite color was red. He also loved his jewelry. Heavy was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Stowers Reed, step-father, Willie Alfred Stowers, father, Paul Veney, Sr,, grandparents, Viola and Robert Reed of VA, and Wilbert and Addie Veney of Emmerton, VA. He leaves to cherish his loving memory to his step-mother, Catherine Veney of Washington, DC; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Williams (Irvin Williams) of VA, Joyce Carey (Lloyd Carey) of Emmerton, VA, Joycelyn Cooper of SC, Gussy Stevens of Washington, DC; three brothers, Paul Veney, Jr., his six children, Dwain Brown (Ebony Brown) of Chestertown, MD, Desiree’ Chavis of Baltimore, MD, James Sydnor (Michelle Sydnor) of Grasonville, MD, Brandi Reed of Chestertown, MD, Ashley Reed of Chestertown, MD and James (George) Reed, Jr., of Chester, MD; twelve grandkids, Ashley Garnett, Jalessa, Aaron, Alexis, Jose, Dwain, Jr., Nasir, Semaj, Baby James, Amir, Ke’Toria, Ashley Sudler; seven great-grandchildren, Jayden, Ashton, Timmy, Taylen, Tra’Meia, Lay’Anah, and David and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
