James Anthony Powell Jr.

James Anthony Powell, Jr. (Jay) was born on July 3, 1996 to James A Powell Sr. and Katina N. Powell (Bell). Jay departed this life on the morning of June 18, 2016. Jay graduated from Milford High School and went on to attend Delaware State University College and then Delaware Technical & Community College. He was employed at Irish Eyes located in Milton where he loved his job and the people that he worked with. Jay would often say, “Dad this is the best job. They love me here.” He was a member at Watch God Move Christian Center where his (Mom Mom) is the pastor. Jay loved to play the drums and keyboard. You know we had some church when Jay would say, “Service was lit.” His favorite scripture was James 2:17 which states, “In the same way faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead.” Growing up Jay was quite the character. He and his twin sister Jalyn Powell had an inseparable bond that only they understood at times. Jay attempted to take on the role as the big brother and wanted to protect his sister but in reality it was his twin sister who would often be the one coming to his defense. Jay loved his siblings and enjoyed playing church with his younger sisters Adrianna and Kylee (Ky Ky). Ashley and Jay would often play music together and crack jokes on each other. He loved his mother dearly and always knew that she had his back and was often the one who kept him in line. Jay figured out quick that he better fix it before she found out or else someone would be getting a call. Jay loved the fact that his (Nana) spoiled him. His (Pop Pop) taught him the value of a dollar and his (Mom Mom) taught him to trust God. Jay was very athletic and competitive. He loved to play basketball and looked forward to his senior year on the football field. He was so excited after every game and made sure he showed his dad all the highlights of the week. He found joy in playing video games with his father most Sunday evenings after church and a good game of horse and pig for those of you who play basketball. He had a unique sense of humor. If Jay ever said, “I got chu” or “You know my situation” that means the person he was with was either paying for his gas or his food. Most of his friends already knew that. Jay will be missed by a host of family members and friends. He is survived by his Father James A.
