James G. Lunnermon Sr.

James Garfield Lunnermon I was born on May 8, 1946 in Martinsville, Virginia. He was the son of the late Jessie James Lunnermon and Annie Lois Taylor. James was peacefully called to rest on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at his home in Princess Anne, Maryland. Immediately after graduating from Carver High School, he moved to Princess Anne, Maryland with the help and support of the late Dr. William P. Hytche, Sr. who was his God Father. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Maryland State College, now the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. While attending Maryland State College, he met the love of his life, Mary Alyce Brockett. James and Mary enjoyed 45 years of marriage. He was involved in several organizations such as HAWKS Basketball, Alpha Phi Omega-National Service Fraternity, Inc., and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. James spent the majority of his employment years with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He held several positions and retired after 45 years as the Director of Physical Plant. During his tenure, he helped the University to be awarded the “Second Most Beautiful Campus” in the United States. James had a passion for life. He loved building, riding his Harley Motorcycle and had an absolute flair for style. When you walk through the front doors of his home, you will see several stuffed animals from his yearly hunting and fishing trips. James was a true animal and nature lover. He loved every animal that walked on his property. He owned pigs, ducks, dogs, cats and several hundred chickens over a period of time. Although he loved nature, James had a greater love for his family. Loving memories will be cherished by: his loving wife, Mary A. Brockett Lunnermon; three sons, James Lunnermon II, Dominick (Stacy) Lunnermon, and Jason (Stacy) Lunnermon, all of Princess Anne, MD; the apple of his eye and his reason for being, grandson Armani Lunnermon of Princess Anne, MD; mother-in-law Margaret P. Brockett; four sisters, Doris Carter, Jessie Lunnermon, Carrie Lee Taylor, and Veronica Lunnermon; two brothers, James and Joseph Taylor; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Robert) Holden; two step-grandchildren, Ivory and Jymeka; two nieces, Aprille and Autumn Wallace and best friends Rudolph Carter and Kermit Simmons and other relatives and friends. He also leaves his beloved dog “Boss Lady.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James Lunnermon and Annie Lois Taylor, father-in-law, Joseph Brockett, one brother, Charlie Taylor and two sisters, Charlotte Gravely and Phyllis Jones. Today we salute James Garfield Lunnermon I for being a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, uncle, man of style, dedicated and inspirational soul. You will be truly missed.
