James Herman Hobbs

Season I: To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the sun, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot… a time to mourn and a time to dance.(Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, 4) James Herman Hobbs was born, April 26, 1950 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Jimmy Hobbs and Sarah Hobbs. He was the oldest of six children. James grew up in Hurlock, Maryland where he was educated in the Dorchester County Public School System. During the 1960’s, James relocated to Washington, DC. He was employed by Mac Dee Dry Cleaners, Inc. He later met a young girl by the name of Gloria Stewart, whom he never imagined would one day become the love of his life. James pursued a career in the U.S. Army where he served in the Vietnam War. Following his tour of duty, James was united in Holy Matrimony to Gloria M. Stewart on September 15, 1970. From this union, two children, Angela and Terence Hobbs were born. During the course of the marriage, James was admitted to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup, Maryland for injuries and illnesses he sustained from the war. Their marriage survived the test of time and continued by weekly visits from Gloria. His mother Sarah reflects, “I love my son”, who also shared in the visitations as well as assisting in his care. While attending a Pentecostal service, James was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. He continued his Christian experience at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Season II: His story continued as he settled into his second season. He was a compassionate and loving person. He was a father of all times to his children. He had unconditional love for his children, family and friends. The gentlemen’s famous words to his children were, “Always be kind and helpful”. He created love wherever he went and was indeed a friend to man and a friend to many. Along with his beautiful personality and caring spirit was a man who was very opinionated and aspired to do things his way. His love esteemed to animals, as he was often known to house and care for stray dogs. James had a compassion for the less fortunate and would always share his money and clothing with the homeless. He had an unselfish heart and proved it in his everyday life. He took less so that others could have more. Season III: Then shall the dust return to the earth....and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:6-7) James Herman Hobbs’ earthly story ends; He transitioned to eternal life on December 3, 2012. James is survived and leaves his legacy of love, to his family: loving wife, Gloria Hobbs; two daughters, Angela Haynesworth, Tijana King (Donald), two sons; Terence Hobbs (Kisha), Alan Friend; mother; Sarah Hobbs, mother-in-law; Annie Stewart, three brothers; Jimmy Hobbs, Charles Hobbs, Frankie Hobbs, two sisters; Francis Hobbs, Louise Taylor, one aunt, Mamie Bremmell (Bobby); fourteen grandchildren; Jasmine, Renaldo, Jaleesa, Jamia, Taylore, Ke’Sean, Niko, Jaisia, Franchise, and Alan Jr.; a favorite nephew; Raymond, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
