James Drummer

James Drummer, 86, affectionately known as “Pops”, son of the late Garfield Mills and Mardela Harmon, was born on in Nassawadox, Virginia on Friday, April 26, 1929. He peacefully departed this life on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at his residence in Seaford, Delaware. James was educated in the public schools of Virginia. He relocated to Delaware and married the late Mary “Granny” Drummer whom he called “his Shortie”. He was formerly employed by H & H. Poultry Selbyville, Delaware and Townsends Poultry Plant in Millsboro, Delaware, as a live hanger in Receiving. He was a faithful visitor of many churches in Delaware and Maryland. Pops, as he was called by many, was a loving man who loved unconditionally. He enjoyed going to church and listening to his radio. His favorite meal that he would want every day was McDonald’s cheeseburger, apple pie and coffee. He loved riding and visiting although by the time we got to the first stop sign, he would be asleep. He loved going to Easter Seals Adult Day Care where he loved “his girls” as he referred to them and the many friends he made there. He also had a special place for his transportation drivers who would spoil him with little snacks and extra rides before taking him home. Pops loved his great grandchildren, Chamar, Tierra and Twyneica but his heart belong to his great, great grandchildren, Lamar, Za’Niyah, Zamiyan, Lexie, Zaden, Amar’e, and he was waiting patiently for Zy’Kyra to make her entrance into the world. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his siblings Paul Fisher, Edna Fisher, Dorothy Mae Fisher and Roland Kellam. James leaves to cherish his memories his granddaughter, Priscilla Payton with whom he lived; four children: Charles (Bertha) Payton of Frankford, Delaware, Yolanda Vickers of Panama City, Florida, Jessie (Sylvia) Payton of Washington, DC and William Scott, Sr., of Wilmington, Delaware. Three devoted great-grandchildren and their partners: Charmar, Tierra, Alex, Twyneica and Jay and Kevora. Six great great grandchildren that he talked about every day: Za’Niya, Zamiya, Zaden, Lexie, Lamar and Amar’e. He also leaves his special caregivers: Yvonne Roach, Meda Johnson, Carrie Frisby, Harriett Brown, Sharnae Jackson and Marceila Copes. Pops also leaves his Easter Seals Adult Day Care providers and the many friends he had there. One aunt that he spoke of daily is Helen Taylor of Philadelphia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Thank you for the time you gave us with our “Pops”.
