Irving Howard Austin

“This is My Story” Irving Howard Austin, affectionately known as “Dad and Pop-Pop”, was born on September 18, 1922, in Horntown, Virginia. He was the son of the late Lucy Wallop-Austin and Lee Austin. He passed from this life to his eternal reward on Monday, September 6, 2021, at the Shore Lifecare and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, Virginia. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Rebecca Dickerson of Horntown, Virginia on December 22, 1941. Unto this union, four children were born: James, Clarence, Lavenia, and Kennis. Irving began his Christian walk at an early age and was a longtime and faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. There he was a member of the Male Chorus, Pastor’s Aide Choir, and regularly participated in Sunday School activities, which he loved. He was committed to the ministries of the church and volunteered on a regular basis. In his lifetime, Irving was a dedicated worker and employee. Most notably, he was a Civilian Laborer at the Wallops Island Naval Air Station (now known as the NASA Wallops Flight Facility) during the 1940’s and a truck driver/loading dock worker at the Golden Pride(P&L) Poultry processing plant in Stockton, Maryland for twenty-two (22) years. In later years, he worked as a landscaper for various businesses in Virginia and Maryland. He never wavered from hard work. Irving loved to encourage his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other people whom he knew, or even didn’t know. He loved helping people which was his passion! Among his hobbies that he enjoyed was maintaining a garden. He is survived by: one daughter, Lavenia Fletcher and one son, Kennis Austin, both of Horntown, Virginia; daughters-in-law, Reverend Mary Council-Austin of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Gladys Austin of Willingboro, New Jersey and Annette Northan-Austin of Pocomoke City, Maryland; three grandchildren, Sherri Shelton (Steve) of Greenville, Kentucky, Sharon Anderson (Timmy) of Newark, Delaware and Krystal Austin of Willingboro, New Jersey; two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Travis Anderson, both of Newark, Delaware; three sisters-in-law, Beulah Wallop and Hazel Marshall (Earl), both of Horntown, Virginia and Esther Dickerson of Pocomoke City, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Irving was preceded in death by: his parents, Lucy Wallop-Austin and Lee Austin; wife of 68½ years, Mary Austin; sons, James and Clarence Austin; son-in-law, George Fletcher; brothers, Logan Marshall, Jake Marshall, Fred Stewart, William (Bo) Austin, Orlando Purnell and Daniel Purnell and sisters, Louise Fields, Leona Fields, Ruth Ward, and Hattie Wilkins. “To God Be the Glory” Lovingly Submitted ~ The Family
