Irene Rosalee Drummond (Johnson)

Irene Rosalee Johnson Drummond, was born August 30,1938, in Seaford, Delaware, to Robert and Lola Johnson. She attended Bloxom School, Frederick Douglas School and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. She has two sisters and four brothers. Ms. Johnson met and fell madly in love with Elijah Drummond, Jr. They were married on October 26, 1959, and from this union eight children were born; four boys and four girls. Mrs. Drummond served in several churches throughout her lifetime, including Bethel Church, Refuge Temple, First Church of Deliverance, Tabernacle House of Prayer and, Holy Ghost Christian House of Refuge. She worshipped at Word of Truth with Pastor Michael Drummond Sr., until her death. The positions she held were Head Usher, Evangelist, Soloist, Mother of Church, Minister, and A Virtuous Woman of God. She enjoyed listening to Lee Williams, Minister of Music. Mother Irene’s interest and hobbies were singing, shopping, going to yard sales, and playing Bingo at the Senior Center with Bingo pillows. We called her “the rice pudding queen with the secret recipe” because hers was so delicious. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and church family. She was so happy that all of her children were still in the household of faith and preaching the gospel because of the strong Christian foundation she instilled in them. She loved to dress up in her stylish attire and carried herself in a graceful manner. Mother Drummond’s favorite saying was "Prayer changes things." Her two favorite scriptures were Psalm 137: 7 and Psalm 136:23. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Drummond, Jr., parents, Robert and Lola Johnson; granddaughter, Kimberly Irene McCormick; and brothers, Charles and Robert Johnson. Mother Drummond leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters, Loretta Fields (Henry), Cynthia Bagwell, Lisa Batson, all of Bridgeville, DE, and Debra Snead (Clarence) of Ellendale, DE; four sons, Curtis Drummond, Elijah D. Drummond, III, (Michelle) of Laurel, DE, Michael Drummond, Sr. (Carmen) of Lincoln, DE, Clifford Drummond (Latoya) of Felton, DE; three stepdaughters, Joyce Winder, Denise Thompson, and Margaret Queen; four brothers, James Johnson, Sr. (Tavery) of Laurel, DE, Harry Johnson of Seaford, DE, Donald Johnson of Salisbury, MD and Johnny Johnson (Laura) of Seaford, DE; two sisters, Devida Brown of Wilmington, DE and Dortha Johnson of Greenwood, DE; three sisters-in-law, Sarah Johnson of Wilmington, DE, Lilliemae Kellam of Georgetown, DE and Margaret Conquest of Chestertown, MD; one brother in-law, Leroy Drummond (Mary-Ann) of Bridgeville, DE; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.
