Houston Haywood Grinnell Jr.

Houston Haywood Grinnell, Jr., son of the late Houston H. Grinnell Sr. and Azene D. Dorsey, was born on June 25, 1947. He departed this life, Sunday November 4, 2012 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was educated in Kent County, MD. As a young man, he worked on Julian Hill farm and other various jobs. Houston retired from Laborer's Local Union #135 after 36 years. He also worked for a local catering company and 301 Plaza Truck Stop for several years. Houston was a member of Asbury United Church in Georgetown, MD and an affiliated member of Boardly Chapel A.M.E. Church in Pondtown, MD. He was a member of Thomas H. Kiah #101 Prince Hall Mason, Rock Hall, MD, 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason Prince Hall Affiliation Valley of Accokeek, MD. Houston loved to attend Masonic Black Tie Affairs, going shopping in Cowtown, NJ, and on 69th Street in Pennsylvania. Some men collect cars, some collect coins, Houston was known for his collection of suits. He enjoyed every opportunity to show off his Sunday Best. He was impeccable from head to toe; he knew how to pull it all together. In 2004, he found an affectionate friend in Pamela, and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on September 20, 2008. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Bobby) Moore and sister, Joyce Grinnell. Houston leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving and caring wife; Pamela of four years; two daughters, Felicia Grinnell of Newark, DE and Lakesha Rochester of Pondtown, MD; one son, Marvel L. Rochester, Jr. of Pondtown, MD; four sisters, Diane Wilson of Chestertown, MD, Shirley Jones, Darlene (Reggie) Thomas and Charmayne (Ira) Anderson all of Wilmington, DE; one brother, Oscar Grinnell of Dover, DE; mother-in-law; Betty Downes of Pondtown, MD; sisters-in-laws, Karen Downes and Antoinette (Terrance) Brooks both of Pondtown, MD and Terry Franklin of Reading, PA; and two brothers-in-law, William Downes of Alexandria, VA and Keith Cannon of Florida. Adding to his legacy are two grandchildren, Sean Grinnell, Sr. and Paul Grinnell of Newark, DE and two great-grandchildren, Sean Grinnell, Jr. and Seanni Grinnell of Newark, DE. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
