Herbert Edward Drayton

Herbert Edward Drayton, aka "Herb" or "Steek", the son of the late Jake Drayton and Bertell Harden Drayton, was born in Ellendale, Delaware on Wednesday, April 28, 1948. Herb attended schools in the Seaford and Woodbridge School Districts, graduating from Woodbridge Senior High School in Bridgeville. During high school, he earned a welding certificate at Vo Tech in 1969. He was drafted into the United States Army, and served in the National Guards, serving our country during the Vietnam era. After his exit from the military, he worked various jobs until his 20-year plus career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company, Inc. in Seaford, Delaware. Herbert even spent a short period of time working after retirement. Several joys took credit for consuming his spare time: the Dolphins football team, and all sorts of sports, bowling, and the drag strip. He loved participating in softball leagues and watching basketball (except the NBA, because they were soft and didn't play hard). Herb passed away peacefully at his home in Blades, Delaware on Thursday, December 22, 2016, to begin his after-life journey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Jake Drayton, Jr., Valder Drayton, Earl Drayton and Alfred Drayton. Herb leaves to cherish his memories; two devoted daughters: Dionne K. Drayton of Seaford, Delaware, Tara J. Drayton of Magnolia, Delaware; two grandsons, Elijah R. Drayton of Bridgeville, Delaware and Nyjal J. Drayton of Dover, Delaware; three sisters; Zenaomi Davis of Slaughter Neck, Delaware, Lenora Williams of Seaford, Delaware and Mable Jones of Lincoln, Delaware; five brothers: Carey (Leslie) Drayton of Lahnam, Maryland; Robert (Helen) Drayton of Seaford, Delaware; Steve (Vanessa) Drayton of Seaford, Delaware; Layton (Josephine) Drayton of Bridgeville, Delaware; Marion (Molly) Drayton of Warner Robins, Georgia and one sister-in-law, Diane Drayton of Seaford, Delaware. Steek also leaves behind a special cousin, Mildred Hickman of Dover, Delaware; three special nephews: Vaughn (Sunday) Kilgoe of Seaford Delaware; Curtis (Annette) Williams of Bridgeville, Delaware; Rodney "Carey" (Elizabeth) Williams of Seaford, Delaware and a host of close nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
