Henry Dantzler

Henry H. Dantzler passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Hank was born July 4, 1932, in St. George, South Carolina, to the late Burbank and Cora (Stewart) Dantzler. Hank had one sibling, younger sister, Betty Dantzler Camp, who also preceded him in death. He graduated from George Westinghouse High School in Brooklyn, New York, After completing high school, he earned a track scholarship to Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. The school is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. He worked for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as a Police Officer for 20 years. After retirement, Hank went to work for ITT Technical School as a recruiter. After several years there, he went to work for Star Liquor Distributors as a salesman to NYC Metro business establishments and earned several awards for sales achievement. Hank married the late Nettie Parker, and they bore four children; Warren, Desiree, Kenneth and Damon. In l986, Hank relocated to Dover, Delaware and in April 2000, He married Mary L. McKenzie who has a son, Stewart McKenzie and a daughter Lisa McKenzie Moore. Hank loved track, baseball and fishing. He participated in several Senior Olympic events; worked with the Police Athletic League and the Lakeview Youth Foundation mentoring and coaching youth. Throughout the year and especially during the holidays, Henry would assist the Salvation Army with their endeavors. Hank loved fishing so much he invested in a boat to pursue his hobby. Hank’s greatest joy in this life was one word, “family.” The greatest moments were when he was surrounded by his loved ones, which included his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, neighbors and acquaintances. He became an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and served the Missions Committee. Hank leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mary, four children, Warren Dantzler, (Oretha), Brooklyn, NY; Desiree Dantzler-Johnson (Michael), Rochester, NY; Kenneth Dantzler (Linda), Hempstead, NY and Damon Dantzler (Stephanie), Waldorf, MD; one step-son, Stewart McKenzie (Katrina), Naperville, IL and one step-daughter, Lisa McKenzie Moore (Robert), Townsend, DE.
