Helen Pritchett

Helen Pritchett was born on May 27, 1921, in Farmington, DE to the late Joshua Dixon, Sr., and Mary Hayman Dixon. The Lord received her spirit on September 21, 2013. She was educated in the Greenwood Public School in Greenwood, DE. She was employed with Swift and Company for many years until her retirement. Helen was a faithful and devoted member of St. James Union A.M.E. Church in Frederica, DE for more than 50 years. She served in the following capacities: Stewardess, Missionary, Ladies Aide, Usher, and Senior Choir member. She was a pianist for the Junior Choir, which later became the King Family Choir. She served under several Pastors. Helen had a strong enduring faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and she did not mind sharing her testimonies of what God had done for her and her family. Her favorite song was "May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me." Helen was united in Holy Matrimony on December 31, 1961, to the late Howard E. Pritchett. She loved to go to church, and had a passion for playing the piano, gardening, spending time with family, traveling, cooking and shopping. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Ann Dixon; three sisters: Mary Benson, Lena and Vivian Dixon; seven brothers: Nathaniel, Reuben, Joshua, Jr., Clinton, Isaac, George, and William Dixon; two step daughters: Helen Abrams and Verna Roberts; four grandchildren: Richard, Daniel, Dwayne Dixon and Duane Postles. She leaves to cherish her loving memory five sons, Louis Benson (Judy), Smyrna, DE, Floyd Dixon (Beverly), Felton, DE, Kenneth Dixon (Elva), Dover, DE, Edward Pritchett, Harrington, DE and Alphonso Pritchett, Sr., Wilmington, DE; three daughters, Virginia Young (James), Felton, DE, Loretta Mann, Augusta, GA and Cheryl Pritchett, Harrington, DE; her granddaughter, Darlene Dixon, Wilmington, DE, of whom she raised as a daughter; one brother, Robert Dixon (Myrna), Bridgeville, DE; one sister, Dorothy Gayle (Ashley), Greenwood, DE; two sisters-in-law: Helen Dixon, Bridgeville, DE and Pearl Dixon, Seaford, DE; two step-daughters, Jospehine May, Frederica, DE and Agnes Taylor (Ralph), Houston, DE; 41 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; one godson, Herman Mosley, Jr., Harrington, DE; a special family friend, Delema Carter, Felton, DE; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
