Harry Turner

Harry Turner was born in Dover, Delaware on April, 2, 1923 to the late Charles Turner and Beatrice Turner Prattis. On Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home, he departed this life. He received his early education in Dover Delaware public schools. On April 23, 1943, he enlisted into the Army of the United States at Fort Dix, New Jersey. During this time, he served in World War II (WWII). He received the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 4, 1946. On July 4, 1956, he was united into Holy Matrimony to Ms. Irene Sudler, where they remained faithful until her death. To this Union, five children were born. During his years of employment, he worked at Wilmington/New Castle Airport and Dover Air Force Base under various contractors in the Wash Rack Department washing military airplanes. Upon retirement, he spent the rest of his time fishing/crabbing and hunting. He enjoyed fishing with his son, Carlton Sr., grandson Carlton Jr. and friend, Johnnie Moore. Finally after much hard work, he was able to purchase his own fishing boat. During his leisure time, you could find him at the horse races with his best friend Wendell Schenck. He was an avid baseball fan and during his younger years played with various baseball teams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Turner; two sons, Harry and Charles Turner; one brother, George Turner and his step-father, Edward Prattis. He leaves to cherish his memory and love; one son, Carlton Turner Sr. (Angela) of Dover, DE; three daughters, Barbara Jean Benson of Wilmington, DE, Joann Evans and Beatrice Thompson (Mark) both of Dover, DE; three grandsons, Ronald Evans of Smyrna, DE, Carlton Turner Jr. (Rhonda) and Ricardo Wilson of Dover, DE; three granddaughters, Dianna Smith (Sammy), April Evans-Henry and Lakia Turner all of Dover, DE; two adopted grandchildren, Marvin Gibson and Dontayna Wilson both of Dover, DE; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Diane Freeman (Ernest) of Dover, DE and one brother-in-law, Ernest B. Sudler (Jean) of Dover, DE; three nieces and one nephew, whom he raised, Sylvia White-Peterson, Michelle White, Lakeshia White and James White, all of Dover; his extended family, Sharonda Mims (Demetrius) and two special friends, Wendell Schenck and Johnnie Moore.
