Harold Randolph Somerville Sr.

Harold Randolph Somerville, Sr., peacefully departed this earthly journey on February 6, 2021, at Laurel Medical Center, in Laurel, Maryland, where he gained his Heavenly wings and went to Glory. Harold was born on May 14, 1938, in Worton, Maryland, to the late, dearly beloved parents, Lawrence Dunbar Somerville and Blanche Walker Somerville. Harold attended school in Kent County, Maryland and graduated from Henry Highland Garnett, class of 1956. After graduating High School, he would meet Joyce Marie Black, where they married on May 27, 1961, and purchased their family home in Washington Park. Through their union, Harold and Joyce born six children, four girls, Denise, Sonya, Sherrilyn and Donna and two boys, Aaron and Harold, Jr., all of whom he was very proud of. Harold would go to work at Campbell Soup Company in Chestertown, Maryland, before pursuing his career journey at Chrysler Corporation in Newark, Delaware, working as a welder and tire shop associate for 28 years, and retiring in 1995. While at Chrysler, he received the nick name “Big Daddy”, as everyone local and a far would come to know him. Other childhood nick name include “Johnnie”. as well as being a “Washington Park OG”. Harold’s hobbies included fishing with one of his favorite cousins, Alton Somerville, mowing his lawn (lines had to be precise), playing pinnacle and spades (where he would come to your home and make his own game rules), watching Western shows, Karate movies (especially Bruce Lee), football, boxing, Word Search puzzles and being a true CNN and MSNBC spectator, talking daily about current events and politics. Harold knew the Lord early as a young child. During his youth, Harold attended Mt. Olive Church, where his late grandfather, Albert Walker was pastor. Following the teaching of his grandfather, his beloved mother continued to instill the values of faith and family, as she was a virtuous woman of God. Harold adored his mother dearly. Harold also attended Liberty Lighthouse Church, where he rededicated his life to Christ and was an active member serving as an Usher. He loved to fellowship with his children at Work in Progress Ministries and his home church Mt. Olive (especially for the Annual Walker's Day Legacy, where he loved to see his family). Harold enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing many laughs and sharing wisdom, while smoking his cigars, especially at family gatherings. Anyone who took the time to have a session in the den, aka “Mancave”, would leave a different person, filled with love, wisdom, inspiration and spiritual guidance. He loved his “Mancave”. Harold leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 59 years, Joyce Somerville; beloved children, Denise Johnson (Arnold) Church Hill, MD, Sonya Jeff (Lawrence) Chestertown, MD, Sherrilyn Jones (Pastor Guy Sr.) Worton, MD, Donna Somerville Worton, MD, Aaron Somerville (Jerri) Elkton, MD, Harold Somerville Jr. (Beverly) Chestertown, MD and Sheldon Perry Camden, NJ; sisters, Marie Butler Worton, MD, Mary Butler Wilmington, DE, Marilyn Waters Chestertown, MD, Audrey Cooper Chestertown, MD and Phyllis Somerville Dover, DE; beloved sisters-in-law, Francis Johnson Chestertown, MD and Patricia Green Philadelphia, PA; beloved cousin/ best friend, Sheldon Phillips Worton, MD; three proudful generations. which include, 17 grandchildren and their children to cherish his memories and continue the legacy, Sakina Whye (KeeKee), Kashira Brooks (Raisin), Adarrius Martinez (Grandson #1) whom he raised as his children and they lived in the house with them, Ryan Thompson Jr. Camren Thompson, Shania Thomas (Van), De’Arries Somerville, Kiara Somerville, Guy Jones Jr. (Tanika), Kiantee Somerville, Malika Warrick (Neek-Neek), Miriah Gray, Autumn Somerville, Charles Warrick III, Tyjah Somerville, Aaryn Somerville and Jonah Somerville; 31 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly and had a special relationship with; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he loved. Harold was one of a kind.; a true God fearing and family man. He lived by morals, values and respect. He will be forever loved, honored and deeply missed. His wife will continue to remain strong and keep their family unified. His wife will be greatly protected as he is always beside her, to love and cherish his beloved “Lizzy”. We leave this, a passage from his beloved mother: Life like a mist appears in just a day, then disappears tomorrow. All that we are can quickly fade away, replaced with tears and sorrow. If a man should die, can he live again? Hear the promise God has made. He will; the dead will answer. They shall live at his command. For he will have a longing for the work of his own hand. So have faith and do not wonder, for our God can make us stand and we shall live forever as the work of his own hand!
