Harold Richard Burris Sr.

Harold Richard Burris, Sr., was born on Tuesday, July 16, 1946. He passed peacefully from this life, the morning of Thursday, February 13, 2020, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his family at home. On August 21, 1971, Harold was united in holy matrimony to Geraldine Hopkins Walters of Bridgeville, Delaware, and they were married for 48 years. Harold’s passion was his church. He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of Apostolic Faith in Ellendale, Delaware. He was “a good and faithful servant.” He held many different roles, including Sergeant-at-Arms and Deacon. Harold attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. Upon graduating, he served two years in the United States Army. After his military service, Harold attended Delaware Technical and Community College. He later worked at General Foods Corporation for several years. Harold was an entrepreneur, owning several different businesses throughout his lifetime. He was the owner and operator of a tractor-trailer hauling business, a cleaning service and a lawn care service. Harold was also the owner and operator of Burris Firewood and logging for over 30 years. Later, he was employed at Evelyn I. Morris Elementary School in Lincoln, Delaware, as a custodian. Mr. Burris was a hard-working, devoted husband and father who possessed a humble and quiet spirit. He enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing the Word of God. During his down time, he enjoyed playing Sudoku and card games, such as Spades. He loved attending family reunions and holiday gatherings with family and friends. Harold Richard Burris, Sr, was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Hazel (Cirwithian) Burris; two brothers, Randall and Reginald Burris and one grandson, Jeremiah Burris. Harold leaves behind to cherish his memories, wife, Geraldine Hopkins Walters Burris; four children, Dionne Moore, DE, Harold Burris (Nichol) CT, Michael Burris (Angela) DE and Kimberly Miller (George) GA; oldest living aunt, Delema Carter; siblings, Edith Waples-Peet, Barbara Burris, Phyllis Burris DE, Stanley Burris MT, Rodney Burris NJ, Evelyn Burris DE, Elaine Revens (Calvin) DE, Herbert (Selena) Burris DE, Donald Burris (Elvine) DE, Sandra Burris DE and Katherine Burris DE; grandchildren, Damal, Reminisce, Tionna, Cinna, Joshua, Christopher, Emmanuel, Kajla, Elijah, Michael, Ethan, Joziah, Alyssa, Mattie and Grace; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
