Grace Virginia Williams

Obituary Grace Virginia Williams, daughter of the late Lawrence Bratten and Pearline Finney Bratten, was born on April 4, 1924 in Box Iron, Maryland. She transitioned peacefully on May 2, 2025, from Manokin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Princess Anne, Maryland. She was educated in the Worcester County Public School system. Her employment included domestic work and field labor. She dedicated her life of service as a caregiver, often watching kids after school and encouraging others to do their best. Later in life, Grace became a caregiver for her father, Lawrence Bratten, stepmother, Idella Bratten and her sister, Beulah Bratten. In January 1949, she united in marriage with the late George Henry Wise, Sr. and from that union had eight children. Grace dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband George, and their eight children. Grace accepted Christ at an early age and loved to worship at her family church. Grace’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and fostering a loving environment. Her homemade yeast rolls, sweet potato pies, and fried chicken were legendary in the neighborhood, and her holiday gatherings were eagerly anticipated by family and friends alike. Grace's love for which she lovingly cared. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. In 2000, once again Grace found love and married the late Frank Williams. Grace leaves cherished memories with: her son, George Henry Wise, Jr. (Shirley) of Baltimore, Maryland; her daughters, Mamie Elizabeth Saunders of Princess Anne, Maryland, Pearline Virginia Justice (Lurell) of Pocomoke City, Maryland and Denise Lynne Bice of Baltimore, Maryland. Grace is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Grace was preceded in death by: six brothers, Lawrance Bratten, Jr., Charles Bratten, Paul Bratten, Willliam Bratten, Jesse Bratten and Edward Bratten; five sisters, Elsie Yasin, Mary Finney, Beulah Bratten, Mable Johnson and Catherine Bishop; her husbands, George Wise, Sr. and Frank Williams; her children, three sons, Lawrence Wilmore Wise, Wallace Lee Wise and Emanuel Wilmore Wise and one daughter Shirley Mae Sykes and son-in-law, Elvin Saunders.
