Grace Marie Drummond

The Life and Legacy of Grace Marie Drummond I’m just a nobody, trying to tell everybody, about Somebody that can save anybody. Grace Marie Drummond was born on July 17, 1929 in Accomack County, Virginia to the late Eva and George Drummond, Sr. On Friday, June 10, 2022, she transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly reward to rest with the Lord. Grace attended public school in Accomack County and Norfolk, Virginia. She entered the work force at an early age to support the family. After relocating to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Grace began a career as a short-order cook for the U.S. (13) restaurant. Grace remained with the restaurant through multiple ownerships and until retirement with over thirty-five (35) years of employment. In the early 1970’s, Grace converted her life and became an active member of St. John’s A.M.E Church in Pocomoke, Maryland. Grace loved the Lord and she loved the St. John’s A.M.E. Family. As a faithful and humble servant, Grace unselfishly would go where needed and would find a way to help. The fruits of her labor, in addition to the blessings of the Lord, provided Grace with a full life. Love of family was always demonstrated, and as a single woman raising (9) children, Grace nurtured, clothed, sheltered, nourished, taught, and meted out some “good ole fashion” snatching up. Grace was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and truly loved the annual family reunion. Grace used the annual family reunion to put her short order cook skills on display. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, in addition to watching family overindulge. Traveling with family was her second pastime; Grace loved the weekend getaways for family visits, whether traveling to Norfolk, Virginia or Delaware, Grace never said no. Recently, on a trip to Orlando Florida, Grace was the only passenger awake for the entire commute. When suggested to get some sleep, Grace replied, “I am afraid that I may miss something.” Gracie, as her brother would affectionately call her, was compassionate, generous, and fun-loving. She never missed an opportunity to slip in a funny remark or see humor in most situations. Grace was truly a pleasant person to be around; she loved life and gave her all to family and friends. Precious memories of Grace’s life and legacy will be cherished by: her sons, Kenneth Drummond (Lovely) of Waldorf, MD and Lucius Brown III (Tara) of Wilmington, DE; a daughter-in-law, Lana Cropper of Wilmington, DE, a son-in-law, Cornell V. Waters, Sr. of New Castle, DE.; her beloved grandchildren, Mickey Cropper of Wilmington, DE, Juanita Holden of Pocomoke, MD, Cornell V. Waters, Jr. (Valarie) of Middletown, DE, Yolanda Petit (Samuel) of Pocomoke, MD, Corey Deshields (Linda) of Bear, DE, Anita Crawford of Wilmington, DE, Wanda Cropper of Wilmington, DE, Tyreese Johnson-Hargrove of Wilmington, DE, Shawnett Johnson of Wilmington, DE, Kimberly Deshields of Pocomoke, MD, Doriel Atkins of Annapolis, MD, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Grace was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Drummond, her father George Drummond, Sr., her sons, Jesse Drummond, Robert Cropper, Samuel Cropper, Vernon Cropper, and her daughters Mildred Cropper, Althea Waters and Cynthia Blake.
