Geraldine M. Savage

Ms. Geraldine M. Savage, was born on February 11, 1942, in Cannon, Delaware. She was the daughter of the late Charles H. Savage, Sr. and Catherine “Irene” Savage. After a short stay at Lofland Park Center, she went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2021. Geraldine received her early education at Middleford Elementary, Frederick Douglass and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. We are proud to say that at the age of fifty, Geraldine completed high school at James H. Groves Adult Education Program and was awarded a scholarship to Salisbury State University. Geraldine attended Wilmington University, where she achieved a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science and Human Resources. Geraldine continued at Wilmington University and was weeks away from completing a Master’s Degree when interrupted by family circumstances. Geraldine was very talented and creative. She had a knack for hairdressing, styling wigs, and doing makeup. In her early years, Geraldine worked as a seamstress in local sewing factories. She also worked as a home health care professional for many years. After furthering her education, she shifted her career path. Geraldine worked as a youth health advocate at Seaford House and later at Fellowship Health for 10 years. It was in those years that we saw her personality really blossom. She enjoyed taking her clients shopping at Walmart, Jamesway, and on various trips. Geraldine would also attend church with her clients and often come home talking about the sermons. After a few years, Geraldine decided to “get back out” because she loved to be amongst people. She was hired, as a greeter, by Walmart in Seaford, because of her friendly, outgoing personality. She was loved by the customers, who would look for her on shopping days, and affectionately called her “Miss Gerry”. She greeted many customers by saying, “Hi family”. She truly enjoyed seeing them shopping with their children. She loved her job so much that she was always early for her work day. She even decided to join Facebook after learning that so many customers had written about “that nice friendly lady at the front door.” Geraldine was a loving big sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and loyal friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren. She was the fun mom-mom. Her grands loved the days and nights at mom-mom’s house. She enjoyed trips to the beach and museums with them. She was always full of energy and ready to hangout. She loved to watch basketball. Geraldine was an excellent cook and her legacy of being able to whip up an excellent meal from scratch has been passed through the generations of her family. Geraldine had such a strong presence. If you met her, you would surely remember her forever. She could be counted on to speak her mind and also to stand up for herself and others. She was a protector and a confidant. If you were family or a friend, you knew that she had your back. She could fall into conversations with anyone and make them feel that they were talking to an old friend. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Anthony Savage; sister, Lovice Redwine (John); and nephew, Darin Thompson. Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Renee Savage; four grandchildren, Courtney Savage, Michele Savage, Phillip Savage (Louretha) and Tiffany Savage; great-grandchildren, Glory Savage, Taylor Savage, Leonardo Savage, Grace Savage, Mercy Savage and Carson Savage; and special nephew, whom she had a close relationship with, John Redwine. Geraldine is also survived by her siblings, Charles Savage Jr., Sharon Thompson (Christopher), Vera Coleman (Thomas III) and Joyce Stell; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
