George Everson

TSgt. George Edward Everson age 59, died peacefully at his home in Felton, DE on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 due to complications of pneumonia, acute renal failure and Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Born August 17, 1953, in Gaffney, South Carolina, he attended elementary and middle school in Cherokee County, South Carolina and graduated from Blacksburg High School, Blacksburg, South Carolina in 1972. Upon graduating from high school, George moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1978, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He worked in Preventative Maintenance, Fuels Cryogenic, Supervised and trained personnel on dispatching fuel procedures and mobile distribution procedures. Moving to Dover AFB, Delaware in 1994, he was a part of the 436 Supply Squadron (AMC). In 1996, George received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, Fuels Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He later received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force and retired on June 1, 1998 after 20 years of service. On August 17, 1985, George married Sonia Judith Jestin (they would have celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary next month on his birthday). George was a member of First Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Camden, Delaware, where he served as a Deacon and headed the Christian Education Department with his wife Sonia until his illness. He was an avid gardener; he loved to build and fly remote control planes and helicopters; play flight simulator games and sports with his daughters. George was also an artist. He was a very simple man who loved life to the fullest and enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He will be especially remembered for his loving spirit, caring personality, quick wit, spirit of adventure, and the “big smile” that he always displayed on his face, no matter what the circumstances were. He touched many hearts and was deeply loved by many. George is preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Mary Elizabeth Everson and one sister, Suzzanne F. Rainey. He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Sonia J. Everson; two daughters, Sonsecharae J. Everson and Jekeijra A. Everson; mother-in-law, Muriel A. Jestin of Windsor, CT; father-in-law, John Jestin (Carol) of Hartford, CT; one sister, Lillian Ruth McRae (Mack) of Charlotte, NC; one brother-in-law, Cephas Hutchinson (Berneeda) of Windsor, CT; one nephew, Darrin Rainey (Layne) of High Point, NC; two nieces, Erica N. McRae of Charlotte, NC and Ersula McRae-Jerkins (Corey) of Apex, NC; five grand-nephews, two grand-nieces and many cousins and close friends. Among those were his long life childhood friends, Donnie Moore and Benjamin “Monroe” Smith; his military friends, Kevin Whaley, Jonathan Graham, Michael Jackson and many others who served with him around the world and those who were a part of the 436 Supply Squadron at Dover AFB, Dover Delaware.
