George Alfred Barnett Sr.

His Life Story George Alfred Barnett, Sr., the only child of the late George A. Harvey and Hester Barnett-Turner, fell asleep in death on January 28, 2025 at 10:45 PM, in his home, under the watchful eyes of his daughter, Millie Green and granddaughter, Melissa Brown. George was ninety-eight (98) years old; born on April 27, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “Mole”, as he was known to many, was educated in the Pennsylvania and Maryland Public School systems. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Myrtle Gordy, whom he later married. Soon after, they moved to St. Michaels, Maryland. They were married for forty-six (46) years. From this union were born nine children; 5 sons and 4 daughters. George enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II. His service was terminated with an honorable discharge in 1946. Upon returning home, he enjoyed being with his family. He worked as a brick mason for Mr. Elwood Harrison and also, at the Miles River Yacht Club. He retired from Masonry to take care of his wife, until she departed this life on January 27, 1993 at 10:00 PM. George and Dorothy were both pronounced dead by the Coroners on January 28, as they arrived after midnight. George was a true friend, devoted father and husband. Everyone he met loved him. Playing cards was what he enjoyed and baseball was his favorite sport. Though not a religious man, Mr. Mole loved studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses in the privacy of his own home, always at a time that was convenient for him. Once he surprised Millie by going to a meeting at the Kingdom Hall, with his Bible teachers, The Carters. He looked forward to the promises of Jehovah God and His Son Jesus Christ. Everlasting Life on Earth with no more pain and suffering. Revelation 21:4 “And He shall wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor out nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Over the 98 years of his life, the many chapters of his life are rich in love, goodness, kindness, generosity and friendship. George was a sincere, helpful and caring person. His time with us wrote many wonderful memories and painted beautiful pictures that death cannot erase. George is survived by: his children, Carolyn Greene (James), Janet Goldsborough and Reginald Barnett, all of St. Michaels, MD, Irvin Barnett (Patricia) and Alfreda Barnett, both of Philadelphia, PA and Millie Green (Melvin) of Baltimore, MD; two daughters-in-law, Evon Barnett of St. Michaels, MD and Claudia Barnett of Lexington Park, MD; one sister-in-law, Frances Barber of Philadelphia, PA; twenty-four (24) grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also mourning his loss are his best friends and cousins, Vincent “Bags” and Lewis Barnett. George was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents and three sons, George A., Carl M. and Allen A. Barnett, Sr. and one grandson, Traynor Clegg Caldwell. Submitted With Love ~ The Family
