Genora Hodge

Genora Williams Hodge age 96 of Dagsboro, DE was born on December 15, 1918 in Johnston County, North Carolina to the late Sandy and Lendia Williams. She was the oldest of six children. On December 31, 2014, she peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to eternal life in her heavenly home. On October 31, 1935 she married McKinley M. Hodge. They were married for 47 years before his passing in 1982. To this union they were blessed with three children; Ann, Betty, and Kenneth. She came to Delaware in 1941. She was employed by the Pack family for 30 years. She was their housekeeper/nanny and later a cook at their place of business “The Bottle and Cork”. From there she was employed at Showell Poultry from 1973 to 1975, N.C.R. from 1975 to 1976, Allen’s Hatchery from 1976 to 1981, the Carousel Hotel from 1986 to 1998 and as a Senior Companion from 1999 to 2004. Genora touched the lives of so many in more ways than anyone will be able to tell. She truly was a “Priceless Gem” more valuable than anything on this earth. To know her was to love her. She was a woman of integrity, full of love and compassion. Not only did she mother her family and their friends, but an entire neighborhood and all of their friends for over 50 years. She was affectionately called Ms. Genora or Mom Mom by those whose life she had touched. She was a “Woman of Faith” who didn’t mind telling you about how she trusted in the Lord, and placed all her concerns in his hands. She loved “good ole” gospel music, and was a member of The Church Of The Lord Jesus Christ Of The Apostolic Faith in Ellendale, Delaware currently under the leadership of Bishop Omega Shelton. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Rev. Sandy and Lendia Williams; her husband, McKinley Hodge; two daughters, Ann Johns and Betty Showell; two brothers, James and John Williams; one sister, Mary Archer; four grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She leaves to cherish a lifetime of special memories one son, Kenneth Hodge and wife Carol of Neptune, NJ; one son-in-law Riceton Johns of Laurel, DE; one brother Bishop Daniel Williams and wife Bertha of Selma, NC; one sister Sylvia Williams of Frankford, DE; one sister-in-law, Ora Lee Williams of Dagsboro, DE; 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, the family of Harry and Ann Pack, a special friend Phyllis Collick, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
