Geneva Sampson

Obituary Geneva Sampson, affectionately known to all as “Sweetie”, departed this life at the age of ninety on September 21, 2023 at the Easton Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Elder William Wesley Sampson and Clara Elizabeth Sampson. She attended public schools in Dorchester County. Most of her working years were spent doing seasonal and domestic work. Sweetie was known in and around the community for her exceptional cooking skills. Her homemade rolls and cinnamon buns were highly desired. Not only was she known for her cooking skills but she was also known for making snow cones for children throughout the neighborhood. You would often see her standing on her front porch during the summer loading blocks of ice into the snow cone machine. Sweetie had a love for flowers. She could hardly wait for warm weather to begin working in her flower beds. Sweetie loved a good laugh and would find humor in many situations. It was not unusual to hear her laughing at something that she found amusing. She enjoyed talking on the telephone to family, especially Cousin Dolly Rhodes, and friends. As she talked on the phone, you knew that she was tickled about something because you would hear that laugh. Listening to music, especially gospel music, was something that she also enjoyed. In her later years, she attended and became a member of Hurlock United Methodist Church. Sweetie is survived by her children – one daughter, Sandra Sampson Redmon and three sons, Rayfield Sampson, Gregory Sampson, and Kevin “Algie” Sampson; as well as her grandson, Kevin Sampson, whom she raised. She is also survived by her grandchildren – Carlos Palmer, Rayanne Cephas, Monica Quailes, Rayshea Sampson, Raylena Byrd, Dontrez Sampson, Maisha Stubbs, Tyrine Watson, Jordon Johnson, Ryheem Johnson and LaShonda Webb; twenty-nine great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, Sweetie is survived by three sisters – Margaret Sampson, Geraldine Adams and Earlene Sampson (Lewis); one sister-in-law – Evelyn Sampson; one daughter-in-law – Brenda Sampson; and two devoted nieces – Darlene Sampson and Linda Sampson. Other survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Anthony Sampson; grandson, Gregory Webb; two brothers, Leon Sampson and Wendell Sampson; one sister, Mary Agnes Sampson; one sister-in-law, Sue Daniels Sampson; and companion, Rayfield Jackson.
