Gary Darnell White Sr.

GARY’S JOURNEY Gary Darnell White, Sr. was born on February 8, 1963 in Salisbury, Maryland. He was the oldest son of Emma and the late Herman White, Jr. who preceded Gary in death in October 2020. Gary departed this life on Monday, February 13, 2023, at his home. Educated in the public schools of Wicomico County, Maryland, Gary graduated from James M. Bennett Sr. High School in 1982. He was employed by Purnell Music Studio for more than thirteen (13) years, where he served as a maintenance manager, cleaning technician and security officer. Gary was affiliated with Bethel Progressive Community Church under the Pastoral leadership of Bishop Robert B. Starkey, along with his dear mother, Emma White and brother, Allen White. Gary’s community and civic activities included a rich and deep passion for the sport of basketball, which began early in high school. Gary’s passion included coaching and refereeing in the well-known Kappa League of Salisbury and mentoring young athletes in the sport of basketball. Basketball was a great passion for Gary, and he was considered one of the Legends of Salisbury. He won several Slam Dunk competitions and several County Men’s League championships as well. Gary was well known for his ability to play above the rim and secondly, to motivate the crowd. Gary’s second passion was drag racing, along with his late father, Herman White, Jr., and his brother, Allen White. Gary was well known in the community and on the Eastern Shore as well. He truly loved and cherished his family, friends and had a tremendous passion to help others in need and those less fortunate. In addition to his father, Herman White, Jr., Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Silvia whom he loved dearly and his beloved sister, Charlotte White. Gary leaves to cherish everlasting memories: his mother, Emma White of and brother, Allen White (Lorena), both of Salisbury, MD; two daughters, Seigrid White (Terrica) of Princess Anne, MD and Jocelyn White of Salisbury, MD and one son, Gary Darnell White, Jr. (Mahalia) of Salisbury, MD; Only niece, Chrishon White and (Mikhail Ingram) of Salisbury, MD and three nephews, Deonte Spratling and (King Spratling), of Salisbury, MD, Justin White of Fort Washington, MD and Allen White, Jr. of Savage, MD; two maternal uncles, George King (Leona) of Columbia, NC and Clarence King (Zethalyn) of Newark, NJ; one maternal aunt, Sterline Lewis of Salisbury, MD; paternally, Charles White (Bernie), Jackie White and Elizabeth Parker, all of Salisbury, MD and Julia White of Wilmington, DE. Gary also leaves behind his grandchildren Brooklyn and Sydney Cottman, both of Princess Anne, MD and a host of family and friends. LOVINGLY SUBMITTED ~ THE FAMILY
