Freddie Leroy Tingle

Freddie Leroy Tingle, born on June 3, 1931, to the late Henry and Beatrice Tingle, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Freddie was a devoted and hardworking individual who spent 50 years as a truck driver for Friel’s Lumber Company before retiring. Even in retirement, he remained active and found fulfillment working as a cart handler at Safeway. His dedication to his work and his family will always be remembered. Freddie had a true passion for working with his hands and was a self-taught handyman. If something was broken, he was determined to fix it—though sometimes, he’d admit, he’d end up breaking it first! In his younger years, Freddie had a love for adventure—whether it was riding his Harley or, much to his wife’s dismay, taking his boat out on the water… until she convinced him to sell it! During baseball season, Freddie could often be found enjoying the games with his grandson, Tony, with whom he shared a deep and cherished bond. He also had a special connection with his two brothers, Wilford and Robert (Pove), and looked forward to their daily phone conversations, which were one of the highlights of his day. Over the years, Freddie served in various roles at Robinson A.M.E. Church, where he was a dedicated and active member. His love for GOD and his community was evident in all he did. In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Florence V. Tingle; his two sons, Alvin and Alex Tingle; great grandson Tony Tingle, Jr (little Tony) and his brother, Henry Tingle Jr. Freddie leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, and is survived by his four children: Virginia (Diane) Douglas (Allentown, PA), Deborah Tingle (Allentown, PA), Rowena Tingle (Grasonville, MD), and La Wanda Jones (Thomas) (Waldorf, MD); nine grandchildren: Tony Tingle (Pamela), Jermaine Tingle, Charmissha (Missha) Hamlin (Ronald), Dontez Tingle (Tanisha), Tabatha Tingle, Corderal (CJ) Tingle, Shavona Potter, Raymond Potter II, and Ryan Young; twenty-five great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wilford Tingle (Grasonville, MD) and Robert Tingle (Rose) (Cordova, MD); three sisters: Mildred Powell (Selbyville, DE), Barbara Thomas (Harvey) (Carmichael, MD), and Cecila Fisher (James) (Capitol Heights, MD); three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; a special niece, Nita Mills; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
