Freddie Lee Cross

Freddie’s Journey Freddie Lee Cross passed away peacefully in Salisbury, Maryland on July 10, 2026, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Freddie was a caring and fun-loving brother, uncle, and friend. He'll be remembered for always having a positive outlook on life, no matter the situation. Freddie was born on March 4, 1954 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia to the late Robert Edward Cross and Dora R. Cross. Dora married Robert Edward Cross on November 27, 1933. In the late 1950's, his father, mother and siblings traveled from Swainsboro, Georgia to the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland to find work in the agriculture industry. They migrated there to raise a family and become a part of the local fabric. He received his formal education in the public schools of Wicomico County. Freddie was afflicted by rickets and cerebral palsy. He was lovingly cared for by his mother. She vigorously fought for his inclusion in State Programs that would help to make his life's journey one of hopefulness, enjoyment, and fulfilling experiences. Freddie refused to let his disabilities define who he was. He would always say: “I may not be able to walk; but I'm here to have fun just like you.” Freddie was hospitable, inclusive, and welcomed everyone with open arms into the home that he shared with his mother until mid-2023. He loved to try his hand at fishing, riding lawn tractors, planting flowers, building model cars, and above all art. Freddie was an outstanding artist with capabilities far beyond those of all his siblings and most of his many friends. From June 2023 until his passing, Freddie was fortunate enough to become a resident of the Holly Center in Salisbury, Maryland. There his life exploded with new opportunities, outings, and the development of close friendships with staff and fellow residents. He was at peace and very happy with his “new home” from day one until the very end of his journey. Freddie was a man of faith, and he loved the Lord. Freddie 's hard work, non-judgmental and caring ways with his entire family and friends, and positive outlook on life surely helped him overcome the difficulties that life had presented. His attitude surely allowed him to live such a vibrant and fulfilling life. Freddie was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Dora Cross, his sister, Claudine Cross, and his brothers, Samuel Cross (Lizzie Cross), Quincy Cross (Margaret Cross), and Rufus Cross (Betty Cross). Those left to cherish many fond memories are: his siblings, Robert Cross (Inez Cross), Elizabeth Kirkland (Louis Kirkland, deceased), John Cross, (Diane Cross), Arsular Tunstell (Anthony Tunstell, deceased), and Alvin Cross (Linda Cross); nieces and nephews, Karen Washington, Michael Cross, Donna Wilson, Yolanda Johnson, Quincy Walker, Veronica Cross, Keith Cross, Schreaka Nwoke, Lakiesha Cross, Henry Wallace, Louis Kirkland Jr, Ezra Kirkland, Andrew Kirkland, Greta Browder, Lauren Doles, Edward Fogle, Tammy Cross, Kiristin Tunstell and Corey Cross and a host of cousins, and friends.
