Frances Woolford

Obituary Frances Virginia Woolford, daughter of the late Stephen and Eleanor Holbrook, was born on October 27, 1920 in Venton, Maryland. On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, she departed this life at the age of 96 at home in the loving care of family and the Hospice of the Chesapeake Nursing Staff. She was married to the late Walton Purnell Woolford “Skinny” and enjoyed this union until the Lord took him home August 3, 1968. Of this union, they were blessed with nine children. Frances was educated in the Somerset County School System. She started work at a very early age, working in the fields throughout Somerset County alongside her father and siblings. She also worked in neighboring Canning Factories peeling and canning tomatoes . After being employed by the Campbell Soup Company in Salisbury, Maryland for approximately 44 years, at age 62 she retired and as she would tell you “didn’t work a tap since then”. She enjoyed attending church at Grace United Methodist Church, Venton, Maryland; Trinity United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, Maryland and Restoration Fellowship Center, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Her daily routine would include working on word search puzzles, and watching game shows, especially the Steve Harvey Show (Family Feud). She proved that agility has no age limit when she took her first airplane flight in 2013 to Disney World at the ripe old age of “92”. Enjoying every moment of it, she flew like a pro.., sitting in a window seat enjoying all the views of God’s creation. To know her was to love her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory five children, Stephen (Linda) Woolford, Oaksville, Maryland; Harold (Jackie) Woolford, Newark, Delaware; Michael (Marcie) Woolford, Simpsonville, South Carolina; Attrue (Trudy) Gayle, Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Alma (Vic) Doane, Catonsville, Maryland, one very special god-son Harold “Buster” Jones, Salisbury, Maryland; 19 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 30 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
