Flossie’s Life Story The story of Flossie Mae Sheppard Davis began 92 years ago. She was the second of four children born to the late Helen Drummond Sheppard and the late Charlie Sheppard. She was reared by her paternal grandparents, from a young age, after the death of her mother. At the age of 15, she met and later married the love of her life, Frazier “Fred” Earl Davis. From this union, seven children were born. Although life was not always easy for her, she never lost focus on her desire; to be the best wife and mother she could be. She was a devoted wife until her dear Fred died and continued to be a mother until the day she departed this earth. Flossie was affectionately known by family and friends as mom, grandma, granny, Mother “J”, and Faded Rose. She would fit the role of “Big Momma” as her home was always the place where all of the family loved to gather to eat, and she would do anything to keep the family together and at peace. She had a nurturing heart and was always willing to help someone in need. Flossie raised her children, some grandchildren, and would take in anyone who needed a home. She was known for her sense of humor right up to her last days. Her funny was so funny because she would be so serious and matter of fact. She possessed the gift to lift your spirits when you were down and could make you laugh even when you did not want to. She was by far a shining star. She was a manual laborer, with one of her jobs being an oyster shucker. She perfected her craft and was one of the fastest around; she took pride in that. In fact, she was just a proud woman and willing to work for what she wanted. She also earned an honest living by doing seasonal work, and housekeeping. As she was a phenomenal cook, she also worked in restaurants. Flossie’s heavenly father decided to end her final chapter and rescue her from her pain and suffering. She quietly and peacefully slipped away to take her eternal rest and peace with her heavenly father on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at her home in Pocomoke, Maryland. In addition to being preceded in death by her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Davis and Richard Davis (Rosemary-widow) and her siblings, Howard Blackson, Hannah Sheppard, Robert Sheppard, and Herbert Sheppard, and one granddaughter, Kelly Harmon. Left to cherish many beautiful memories of her long life are: her children, Audrey Pearl Davis of Pocomoke City, MD, Lowell Thomas Davis (Nancy) of Temperanceville, VA, Fred Davis, Jr. of Oak Hall, VA, Helen Mae Campbell (Andrew) of Temperanceville, VA, and Tyrone Melvin Davis (Theresa) of Parksley, VA. She will also be cherished by 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
