Felton Lewis Jr.

Felton’s Journey Felton Lewis, Jr. peacefully transitioned from this life in his home on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the blessed age of 93. Born in Macon, Georgia, Felton was the son of the late Mariah and Jessie Lewis. He received his education while living in Florida and during his young adult years, moved to Milton, Delaware. Not long after moving to Delaware, Felton met and married Lear Maggett Risper. Felton worked at King Cole Canning Company in Milton, Delaware. He worked his way up in the company to become a night shift Supervisor. He was employed at King Cole for 47 years and then retired. Felton accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was an active and faithful member of Burton’s Chapel A.M.E Church in Milton, Delaware until his most recent illness. He assisted in the kitchen and served as a Trustee for the church for many years. Felton also enjoyed good singing. Fraternally, Felton became a F. & A.M. Mason on May 19, 1961 at Rising Sun Lodge #4 where he was made an honorary Past Master. He received his 32nd degree as a member of the G. Oscar Carrington Consistory #93 located at 516 Chestnut Street in Milton, Delaware. Felton was affectionately known as “Dump” and “Uncle Dump” and loved inviting family and friends over to enjoy his famous fried chicken, collard greens or a family barbeque. He also enjoyed fishing, planting a huge garden, riding his golf cart and watching to see who was coming into the yard. In addition to his parents, Felton was preceded in death by: his sisters, Willie Mae Cody, Jessie Mae Wiggins, Flossie Bruton, and Eurie Bell; his brothers, James Lewis, Eddie Lee Lewis, Willie Roy Asbury, Oscar Asbury and John L. Asbury; his son, Shelton Lewis and two grandchildren, Ronalda and Reneta Ayers. Felton leaves to cherish many fond memories: his loving wife of 66 years, Lear Lewis; seven children, Belinda (Edward) Waples of Milton, DE, Ronald (Cleo) Lewis of Dover, DE, Donald (Betsy) Lewis of Stephens City, VA, David Lewis of Salisbury, MD, Elton Lewis of Harbeson, DE, Patricia (Ricky) Lewis of Lewes, DE and Anthony Lewis of Germantown, MD; 17 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Arlena Pugh of Columbus, GA, Thelma Taylor of Boynton Beach, FL and Ola Asbury, also of Boynton Beach, FL; one sister-in-law, Bernice (Lionel, Sr.) Hinton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
