Ethel L. White

Ethel Laurine Butler White fell peacefully and eternally asleep at the home of Mrs. Hilda Sisco Edesville, Rock Hall, MD, on Sunday, September 29, 2013. She was born on March 6, 1916 to the late Arthur and Helen Murray Butler of Rock Hall, MD. Ethel was educated in the public schools of Rock Hall, Maryland. She joined Aaron Chapel Church at an early age. During her young adult life, she was employed at the Rock Hall Seafood Plant and as a housekeeper for various families in the Rock Hall area. She later moved to Philadelphia and was employed by the family of Mary O’Brien as a loving housekeeper for many years until retirement. Ethel was joined in holy matrimony to the late McCall White. She was the youngest of her five siblings, the late Sonny Butler, Clarence (Sox) Butler, Elizabeth Butler Wilson and Hilda Butler. Ethel spent most of her life in Philadelphia until 2012. Due to old age, illness, living alone and not being able to take care of herself, her niece, Hilda Sisco, with love and great compassion brought her home to live with her and took care of her until her death. Ethel was devoted to her family. She loved spending time with family and friends during holidays, birthdays and family reunions. She loved watching her favorite TV shows: CSI, game shows and Jimmy Swaggert. She was a beautiful woman with a loving smile whenever you saw her. She had a fragrance of sweetness and a quiet, sweet spirit. She loved everybody. She was preceded in death by her son, William Harris; grandson, André Harris and a granddaughter, Desireé Harris all of Philadelphia, PA. She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter-in-law, Olivia Harris of Philadelphia, PA; three great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great granddaughter; five nieces, Agnes Danner of Philadelphia, PA, Hilda Sisco and Mary Etta Butler of Rock Hall, MD, and Geneva Butler and Mary (Wesley) Jackson both of Chestertown, MD; two nephews, Clarence (Dorothy) Wilson of Rock Hall, MD and Calvin (Estella) Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; two special friends Janie and Barbara both of Philadelphia, PA. Ethel will be greatly missed by family and friends. We all loved her very much.
