Ernest "Big Boy" Thomas Brittingham Jr.

Obituary Tuck me in a corner of your heart, the clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop at what hour. On Monday, February 5, 2024 at 1606 St. John Road in Stockton, MD, the hands stopped that morning for our father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Ernest Brittingham, Jr., at the age of seventy four (74). Ernest, lovingly known as “Bigboy,” was born December 30, 1949 to the late Ernest, Sr. and Nellie Brittingham. Bigboy graduated from Worcester High School in 1967. After graduating, he worked at Buddy Boy’s Poultry Plant, where he met the love of his life, the late Carolyn Coston. They were united in Holy Matrimony on September 21, 1970. Their union was blessed with three daughters and one son. Bigboy retired from the Tyson Foods located in Berlin, MD. Bigboy was saved. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and became a member of the family of God. Bigboy loved spending time with family and friends. Back in the “old days,” Ernest loved the sport of rabbit hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his father, his brother, Ed Britt and nephews, Darnell and Ejay traveling through the woods searching for rabbits. Bigboy later gave that sport up. Bigboy loved to watch all kinds of movies. He was a Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees “die hard fan.” He also was a collector. He would always be searching for metal and other valuable items and he collected so much that sometimes we thought he was trying to be the next Fred Sanford. Bigboy was a jovial and a happy person. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was blessed with many, many friends. No one was a stranger to him. He demonstrated Luke 10:25-37 - the Good Samaritan, “love our neighbors as ourselves.” He would help anyone in need anytime - day or night, regardless of the circumstances. Bigboy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be cherished and remembered always. He is survived by: his four children, Penny Schoolfield (Lionel), Ernest Brittingham III, Christina Moore (Anthony) and Hattie Brittingham; seven grandchildren, Stacey Schoolfield (Mo) {Taylor, Jordan, Alexis}, Shawn Schoolfield (Brittney) {Caliyah, Dream, Zhuri}, Antwaine Summerville (Abigail) {Alana}, Tiquan Brittingham (Jasmine) {Saniyah}, Latrell Moore {Skylah}, Darius Brittingham and Tylik Brittingham; five siblings, Louise Brittingham, Edward Brittingham (Florence), June Roberts, Alice Hemmeian (Larry) and Rosemary Harmon (Gary); two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a close special friend, Peggy Blake and many others relatives and friends. Bigboy was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife of 49 years of marriage; two sisters, Edna Reynolds Cooper and Peggy Brittingham Collins; one brother, Jerry Brittingham and two nephews, Elwood Taylor and Richard Taylor. It broke our heart to lose you but you did not go alone for part of us went with you the day God took you home.
