Emma Winchester

Emma Louise Conyer Winchester was born on January 27, 1911 to Charles and Sarah Elizabeth Conyer in Centreville, Maryland. Her husband, Hamilton Winchester; brother, Dennis Allen; niece, Janice Allen Brown; nephews, Henry Allen, Dennis Allen and Thomas Allen; great-nephew, James Hudson and great-niece, Charlotte Hudson Washington preceded her in death. Aunt Emma went to school in Centreville, Maryland. She received Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Charles Wesley Methodist Church which later became New Life Community United Methodist Church. She participated in many clubs and organizations including: the United Methodist Women, Lucretia Kennard Homemakers Club and American Legion Auxiliary Aunt Emma, as she was lovingly known by us, was also called Cousin Emma and Miss Emma. Her family loved her cooking and especially her crab cakes! She had many jobs including working in the Queen Anne County School System, but she is mostly remembered by us as the beauty shop owner who lived across the street from the cemetery. Aunt Emma enjoyed attending Bible Study, playing cards, playing bingo, bowling and attending the Senior Center. In her youth, she enjoyed playing with her cousin, Lillian Carter Ricketts, who also lived to be 102 and died on October 25, 2013 in Pennsylvania. She also enjoyed movies starring Charlie Chaplin. She saw many changes in the world during her lifetime and was especially proud to walk into the polling place independently to vote for our first African American President, Barack Obama. She went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2013 at 6:50a.m. after living for 102 and a half years. She leaves to cherish and celebrate the memories of her life her great-niece, Joy Hudson; great-nephew, Stacey (Taya) Brown; great nephew-in-law, Norman Washington; great-great nephews, Shayne (Sankedra) Hudson, Byron (Anishia) Washington, James Allen Hudson and Elijah Brown; great-great-niece, Mikaia Emma-Leigh Grace Brown; great-great-great nieces and nephews, Byron Washington, Jr., Kenton Hudson, Taylor Hudson and Charlissa Washington. She will also be missed by Jean Cooper and Wendy Haynes as well as a host of other family and friends.
