Elsie Hardial

Elsie (Pitts) Hardial was born September 12, 1922 to the late William and Georgia Pitts in what is now known as Cape Charles, Virginia. She departed this life on Friday, October 31, 2014, in her home located in Greenbackville, Virginia. She was educated in both the Northampton and Accomac public school systems. At an early age she was married to Thurgood Cropper. From this union five children were born. She worked as the proprietor of the Twin Pine Inn aka “The Hall.” Widowed at a young age with her children, she was blessed to meet Philip Hardial while still in Virginia. Their relationship blossomed and Phil moved the love of his life to Connecticut in 1961. Elsie became a member of Bethel A.ME. in Stamford, Connecticut. She served as secretary of the Altar Guild for several years. She worked as a housekeeper for different people in the community. This vocation allowed her to develop wonderful relationships; extending her family to include people from different walks of life. After Phil retired from his landscaping business, they built and moved into their new home in Greenbackville, Virginia. Elsie’s warm personality and infectious laughter were always welcomed. She took pride in all that she said and did for she knew that she and her husband Phil, were role models for many. She was never afraid to voice her opinion and give advice. She loved her family and friends and was proud of all that they accomplished. She is preceded in death by her son, Nathaniel Cropper; father William Pitts; mother Georgia Link, sisters, Pinky Spady and Dorothy Kearsey; brothers Herbert and Johns Pitts and grandson Ronald Beckett. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband Philip Hardial of Greenbackville, Virginia; children Julia Beckett of Lawrence Township, New Jersey; Gerald (Mary) Cropper of Norwalk, Connecticut; Purnell (Gail) Cropper of Greenbackville, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Geneva Cropper of Dover, Delaware and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
