Ella Lewis

On the evening of Wednesday, January 14, 2015, God saw that his beloved daughter had grown very weary and called her home to rest in “Glory”. Ella Louise Brown-Lewis of Harrington, DE departed this life at Milford Memorial Hospital following a long period of illness. Ella was born August 19, 1947 to the late James Reed, Sr and late Bessie Major. Ella received her early education from Millsboro School and graduated from William C. Jason High School. After high school she worked over 20 years for Towsend Inc. She later returned back to school to further her education to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). After becoming a CNA, she became employed by Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown, DE for about two years. In 1968, Ella married James Brown and became step mother to James, Gloria and Dorothy. James and Ella would have children Sandra, Brenda, David, and Vickie through their union. James passed away in 2003. Ella would later marry Lucius Lewis and blend their families together with Lucius’s sons O’Dongo, Darrell, and Darren. In Ella’s free time, she loved collecting angel figurines, enjoyed cooking, shopped till she dropped, and cherished visiting and talking with family and friends. She had a green thumb; she had a passion for making plants, flowers, vegetables and fruits grow. Ella enjoyed gardening. During Ella’s young adult years, she gave her life to Christ and attended St. John’s Second Baptist Church in Millsboro, DE. Later Ella joined Landmark Baptist Tabernacle Church in Milton, DE, where the pastor is Reverend Leslie Freeman. Ella was a very devoted member to Landmark Baptist Tabernacle Church for 45 years and enjoyed singing in the choir. Ella was a very humble person with the true heart of a caregiver. She loved her immediate and extended family dearly. Her family was her pride and joy; especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Those that loved and knew Ella will miss her dearly. Ella leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, Lucius Lewis of Harrington, DE; her children, Sandra Toledo-Bailey (Howard) of Seaford, DE, Brenda Bendolph (Vincent) of Milton, DE, Vickie Brown of Milton,DE, and David Michael Brown, Sr (Tameka) of Evergreen, AL; her step children, Gloria Rawles of Dover, DE, James Brown (Ann) of Dover, DE, Dorothy Fisher (Raymond) of Dover, DE, O’Dongo Lewis(Lisa) of Dover, DE, Darrell Lewis of Harrington, DE, and Darren Lewis of Harrington, DE; 28 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Edna Collick of Lewes, DE, Mary Bailey of Harbeson, DE, Arinthia Peacock of Millsboro, DE, Christine Maddox of Lincoln, DE, Bessie Wright (Daniel) of Millsboro, DE, Janice Dixon-Willis of Millsboro, DE, Anna Reed (Frankie) of Millsboro, DE, Cleo Redden (Thurman) of Dagsboro, DE; her brothers, Allan Major of Selbyville, DE, Peter Major (Rita) of Selbyville, DE, Alfred Reed (Genese) of Millsboro, DE, James Dixon (Ernestine) of Millsboro, DE, Leroy Reed (Barbara) of Millsboro, DE, James Satchell of Millsboro, DE, a paternal aunt Daisey Sturgis of Millsboro, DE, a special nephew Vincent Satchell of Millsboro, DE, a special sister-in-law Maxine Reed of Dover, DE, a special granddaughter Edna Brown of Harrisburg, PA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
