Elizabeth Mae Winder

Elizabeth Mae Winder, daughter of the late Warren Smullen, Sr. and Sophia Mae Smullen, was born in Wicomico County, in San Domingo Community in Sharptown, MD, on May 2, 1939. She was the eldest of three children. Elizabeth departed this life on Sunday, October 1, 2017 unexpectedly. She was educated in the Wicomico County public school system. Elizabeth attended Salisbury High School and furthered her education in New Jersey by obtaining her Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Trenton State College. She was united in holy matrimony to Fulton Winder of Laurel, Delaware for 58 years and became a Military Dependent. In that capacity, she was afforded the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the country until her husband’s retirement from the United States Army. She then settled in both Willingboro, New Jersey and finally Sharptown, Maryland. From her marriage, she was blessed with two sons, Orlando and Efrem. Elizabeth’s travels allowed her to be lawfully employed with several companies to include “RKL Value Control Company” in New Jersey. She loved her job because of the opportunity to interface with various agents in the country to market the company’s products. She was very active in her hometown church in Willingboro, New Jersey in which she held several positions and chaired some of the church’s programs. She was an avid reader and joined various Book Clubs. She also had a passion for flower gardening, sewing and decorative art work. After locating to her birth community, she transferred her church membership to Zion United Methodist Church and became a member of Zion United Methodist Women. Elizabeth was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and was elected as president of Sharptown~Columbia American Legion Unit #269. She served as President with distinction during her tenure. She was also excited about re-kindling old relationships upon relocating to the Sharptown Community. She often said that since she has been away “us teenagers became old people” and laughed. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Warren Smullen, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 58 years, Fulton Winder; two sons, Orlando (Debbie) of Orange City, Florida and Efrem (Barbara) of Junction City, Kansas; one brother Melvin (Jackie) of Mardela Springs, Maryland; one uncle Handy Stanley, Laurel, Delaware; one aunt, Odessa Robinson of Wilmington, Delaware; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends.
