Elizabeth D. Towson

Elizabeth Dorothy Towson, affectionately known as “Betsy,” was born in Worton Point, Maryland, on March 7, 1940. After a long illness, she departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on June 23, 2020, at the age of 80. Betsy was the fourth of eight children born to the late Webster Daniel Towson and Mildred Bernice Mason Towson. She received her primary education at Worton Point Elementary School. After the family moved to Melitota, Maryland, Betsy received her secondary education at Henry Highland Garnett School (Garnett). Betsy earned her high school diploma from Garnett in 1959. After graduating, Betsy attended and graduated from the now-closed Timshell Cosmetology School in Easton, Maryland. She worked as a beautician for several years in Mrs. Lucilla Warren’s beauty shop on Cannon Street in Chestertown, Maryland. Betsy loved children. She was blessed with one daughter, Nina Lavette Warren. Her love of children led her to change careers and pursue her passion to educate young children. Betsy worked in early childhood education as a teacher’s aide in the Chestertown and Rock Hall, Maryland Head Start Centers. She then opened her own licensed childcare center in Chestertown. “Miss Betsy” prepared many children for kindergarten, teaching them their colors, alphabet, how to write their names, counting and how to have fun through music and art. She continued operating her childcare center until her illness. Betsy accepted and served the Lord at an early age. She taught Sunday School at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Chestertown, and was willing to help anyone that needed assistance. She took great pride in the little things -- such as having a spotless home and cooking delicious meals. She was also very fashionable and loved upscale clothes and shoes. Family members who preceded Betsy in her transition were, her father, Webster Daniel Towson; mother, Mildred Bernice Mason Towson; and brother, Eggleston “Jack” Towson. Betsy leaves to cherish her enduring memory, her devoted and loyal daughter, Nina L. Warren of Chestertown, Maryland; granddaughters, Natasha R. Swinson of Hyattsville, Maryland and Jasmine D. Jones of North East, Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Kaden Butler and KaMia Smith of North East; five sisters, Joyce Towson Summers of Charlotte, North Carolina, Alice Jean Towson of Cambridge, Maryland, Elaine Corine Towson of Dover, Delaware, Edith Towson Starks of Chestertown, Maryland and Michele Sandy Towson of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, William Henry Towson of Quaker Neck near Chestertown, Maryland; and two brothers-in-law, Apostle Lawrence Summers of Charlotte, North Carolina and Marvin Starks of Chestertown, Maryland. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Lovingly Submitted The Family
