Quick reply allReplyForwardDelete Actions Elder Jesse Tha Hayes was born April 18, 1939 in Atkinson, North Carolina to Patrick Thomas and Allaine McAllister Hayes. Jesse’s love for education began in a one room school house, Halfway Branch, for grades one through eight. From here, Jesse moved to Pender County Training School for high school. He became the bus driver for the students in the ccommunity. After high school, Jesse relocated to New York and began working immediately in the city. Jesse’s service as a bus driver during his high school years helped to prepare him for his tenure with the New York City Transit for over 20 years. Jesse also voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army; serving in Ft. Hood, Texas and later in Germany, where he served with Elvis Presley. At the age of 39, Jesse gave his life to Jesus, being baptized in His name and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit in response to the Bible book of Acts, chapter 2. His passion for God lead him to life of greater service and clerical ministry. While attending a prayer service, Jesse heard a woman praying that captured his attention. He inquired about this woman, and her sister arranged for the two to meet. This woman, Sylvia Fooks, would become Jesse’s wife on September 27, 1980 in Mardela Springs, Maryland. After retiring from the New York Transit System in 1989, Jesse relocated his family to Salisbury, Maryland, as he promised his wife he would. As a retiree, he functioned as a full-time “at-home” father, handling tasks that included to ccleaning southern-style homemade meals, ironing school clothes, and field trips and doctor’s appointments for his youngest children. Being retired also allowed him time to serve the Mardela and Easton Apostolic Church. There, he spent time preaching and teaching, baptizing during the week, working on the prison ministry, offering marriage counseling, financial planning, and visiting the sick and shut-in. He leaves to honor his memory and carry his legacy his wife of 38 years, Sylvia; children, Katina, Gregory, Tyron, Jessica, Jennifer, and Jeannette; 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, saints and friends.
