Edward Raymond Taylor

On Monday, April 6, 2020, God welcomed home his 95-year-old faithful servant, Reverend Edward Raymond Taylor. He was affectionately known as "Raymond". He was a man of strong faith with a servant’s heart. He was the firstborn of nine children, in Greenwood, Delaware, to the late Arlie Taylor and Lavenia Taylor. Near the end of The Great Depression, Raymond had to drop out of high school to help support the family. Although his formal education was interrupted, God blessed him to develop a unique love for reading. Additionally, you would always find him gardening, cutting someone's grass or caring for his own lawn and yard. Raymond served three years in the United States Army. Afterwards, he worked various jobs including, John Yoder's Chicken Industry, in construction as a mason and at Ralph and Paul Adams Scrapple House. In the late 60’s, Raymond gave his life to Christ and faithfully served at the Church of God (Clarence Street) in Seaford, Delaware. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and as a Trustee Board Member. After years of faithful service there, God called him to Pastor "Love Tabernacle" where he served for 20 years, preaching his last sermon on, March 15, 2020. He had a prison ministry for over twenty years at Sussex Correctional Institute, taught Bible Study at the Bridgeville Senior Center and was a part of the Bridgeville Men's Prayer Group. He seemed to always immerse himself in God's word. He enjoyed sharing his testimony and spreading the gospel, winning many souls to Christ. In addition to his parents, Reverend Taylor was preceded in death by three wives, Sarah, Catherine and Miriam Taylor; seven siblings and their spouses, George Taylor (Catherine), Roland Taylor (Tavolia) Dorothy Scott (Bill), Virginia Benson (Joe), Ethel Taylor-Byrd (Robert), Cathelene Hughes (Clifford) and Eleanor Deputy (Owens); one granddaughter, Wardette Scott; and one great-great-granddaughter, Germani Truitt-Handy. Reverend Taylor leaves to cherish his memories, one sister Mary Ann Scott (Melvin); two daughters; Emma Kane (Daniel) and Rosa Scott (Wardell); a special sister-in-law whom he raised as his daughter, Bessie Jones (Wendell); three grandchildren; Sarita Scott, Valerie Horsey (Antoine) and LaTerra Comer (Fred); eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Taylor-Giles, Whitney Morris -Taylor, Jadyn Comer, Imaree Mendez (Bryan), Andrew Scott, JaVonte Scott, Shequita Truitt and Amber Travies; 12 great-great grandchildren; two god-daughters, Dana Perry (Frank) and Alisa Waples; his wonderful church family at Love Tabernacle and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
