Edward Vincent Church Sr.

Honoring A Special Gentleman Edward Vincent Church, Sr., was born on May 10, 1939, to the late Harry Tull and Hazel Irene Burris Church. Edward was the youngest son of eight children born into his family. Edward peacefully transitioned from this life on April 4, 2026, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland. Edward grew up in Delmar, Maryland, alongside his parents and siblings. Edward enjoyed going fishing, hunting, and working on the family farm. Edward received his formal education at Salisbury High School in Salisbury, Maryland, and graduated in 1958. He married the love of his life, Velverline, on November 4, 1960, and they remained together for 65 and a half years. Edward and Velverline raised five children, three boys and two girls. Edward was employed at Dupont, where he worked as a Nylon Machinist Operator for thirty-five years until he retired. Edward was kindhearted, known for helping anyone in need, and for being a gentleman. Edward liked telling a good joke. Edward loved the family's famous farm barbecues with relatives and friends. Edward was an exceptionally good cook and was known for making unbelievably delicious sweet potato pie, a recipe he often shared with the family. Edward was a genuinely humble person who greeted everyone warmly in his home, making each guest feel both welcome and appreciated. Edward was known for having a kind spirit and loving heart. Edward leaves to cherish his precious memory: his wife, Velverline Church; sister, Jane Church Birckhead; sons, Edward Vincent (Sonia) Church, Jr., Gregory Aaron (Bendetta Blue) Church, Sr. and Marvin (Keisha) Church; daughters, Vastina Church Woods and Angel Sommers Church; grandchildren, Davon (Charmine) Brown, Gregory Aaron Church, Jr., Jeremy Church, Jordan Church, Sydney Church, and Madison Church; great-grandchildren, Christian Brown, Daya Brown, Courtney Brown, and Adonais Brown, Gregory Aaron Church III, Willow Church, and beloved nieces and nephews. Family members who preceded him in death include: his brothers, Harry (Marion) Church and George Church, sisters, Verdell Church (Retired Col Clifton) Sands, Martie Church (Donald) Dashiell, Annabelle Church (Seldon) Dix and Carolyn (Carroll James, Jr.) Church Scott Moore and brother-in-law, Robert Birckhead.
