Edna Olivia Stamps

Edna Olivia Stamps, daughter to the late Daniel and Catherine Nixon, was born January 13, 1922 in Chester Pennsylvania. She departed this life at her home on August 20, 2015. She was married to the late John H. Stamps Sr. for 20 years and had a son, the late John H. Stamps Jr. Evangelist Stamps was a family woman at home, in the community, and at church. She enjoyed her home, being a wife, a mother, entertaining her family and friends. Everyone knew she loved to cook. Let’s tell the truth…. she could burn and made good food from scratch. The Guiding Light and the Prices Right are just two of the TV shows she watched regularly. During baseball season, she did not want to be disturbed. She was a Chicago Cubs fan until Ron Howard came on the scene for the Philadelphia Phillies. Then she was converted! You can’t talk about Mother Stamps without taking in to consideration the love she had for her husband and son. She met her husband through her mother’s friend. They corresponded on the phone and wrote letters until John sent her a train ticket to Chicago. When she met John and John Jr., she never looked back. On their anniversary, they would go to the train station to celebrate where they met. Elder Stamps was a factory worker for 21 years for the Goodman Company until they closed. Although she had her responsibilities at home and at work, her first priority and love was the LORD. She was saved at a young age and was a devoted disciple. She became an ordained minister in Chicago in 1978 through Love & Faith House of Prayer Spiritual Church Inc., under the teaching of Bishop Robert E. Smith. After the passing of her husband, she traveled to Missouri with the church and Bishop Smith, evangelizing and doing missionary work. In the late 1980’s, Evangelist Stamps came back to Chester, PA to take care of her mother. She joined Unity Baptist Church and became the pastor’s assistant to the late Bishop James L. Harrison. When Bishop Harrison established True Vine Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, she continued to be steadfast. During inclement weather, she cooked in the feeding program and took on other church assignments. Through her diligence and faithfulness to the Lord, she was elevated to Elder and later became church mother at True Vine. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. She is proceeded in death with her husband John H. Stamps Sr., her son John H. Stamps Jr., her brother Thomas Nixon, and her granddaughter Sharee. Mother Stamps leaves to cherish her memory a Daughter-in-law Elizabeth Stamps; 3 brothers: Alfonso Nixon of DE, George Nixon (Bettie), Nathaniel Nixon (Lena) of GA; a sister Icilla Brown of NJ; her grandchildren: Larry, John III, Karyn (Dwayne), Gregory (Leslie), Bruce (Charlene), Michael; 17 Great Grandchildren; 15 Great-Great Grandchildren and her God Daughter Toia Harrison and host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
