Edith Dotson Stewart

EDITH’S LIFE AND LEGACY Edith D. Stewart passed on November 23, 2023, in Princess Anne, Maryland at the young age of ninety-two (92). She was the matriarch of five generations in her family. Edith was born to the late Samuel and Christine Dotson on March 13, 1931 in New Canaan, Connecticut. She was educated in the public school system in Connecticut. She was a member of the Elks Club, VFW and American Legion, all located in Pocomoke, Maryland. Working various jobs over the course of her life, her last place of employment was Second Wind Rehabilitation where she worked as a cook. She also provided respite care for children with Children’s Choice. Edith was united in marriage in 1954 to Charles Frances Stewart, Sr. and they had five children together and one stepson. As a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, she served on the Usher’s Board, was part of the Trustee Committee, the Cemetery Committee, and the United Methodist Women. Some of her hobbies included sewing, cooking, dancing, bowling, gardening, and listening to music, especially gospel. She loved the Lord with all her heart. Edith also loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. Family was very important to her. She was a very good listener and gave good advice which always included instruction to pray. Anyone who came to her house was welcomed with open arms and you never left out with an empty stomach. She was very generous and would give you the shirt off her back. She was a very hard worker. Edith did not like taking pictures and if you were able to capture it, you could consider it a major accomplishment, especially to catch her smiling, lol. Precious memories will be cherished by: three children, Charles F. Stewart, Jr., Vaughn (Vickie) Stewart and Dawn (Marcus) Kilian; daughter-in-law, Laverne Stewart; 14 grandchildren, Marcus (Merriel) Murray, Tyshon Waters, David (Penny) Collins, Jonathan (Deschell) Collins, Toni Stewart, Charles (CJ) Stewart, Erica (Gerald) Wallace, Chrissie Stewart, Kyle Blake, Jeremy Gordy, Christopher Kilian, Desiree’ Kilian, and Jaheim Reddick; ; 26 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles F. Stewart, Sr.; two children, Anita L. Stewart-Torney and Bruce Stewart; stepson, Gregory Stewart; a granddaughter, Dr. Nikitia V. Powell; her sister, Dorothy Dotson and 8 brothers, Ernest, James, Hayward, Douglas, Arthur, William, Clifford, and Richard Dotson.
