Rev. Ivan E. Wood Sr.

Rev. Ivan Emanuel Wood, Sr. (Woody) 92, departed this life on April 18, 2015 at Lofland Park Center in Seaford, DE He was born in Adelphi, Jamaica, WI on March 8, 1923 to the late Rose and Felix Wood. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. Ivan was a true man of God and loved life, his family, church and friends and was loved by all who knew him. He was a Bible scholar and didn't hesitate to share the Word of God wherever he went. He was a kind and giving man and willing to help anyone. Ivan came to the U.S. in 1948 at the age of 25. While residing in Cambridge, MD, he met and eventually married the love of his life, Selma Lee Smith on December 13, 1948. This marriage lasted 66 years. From this union came seven children, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two god-children. In 1948, they moved to Bridgeville, DE where he worked for Perdue Farms for 40 years. He also worked at American Original Factory and Kent-Sussex Industries. Ivan was a long-time member of the West Indies Social Club. He joined Williams Chapel Church in 1965 where he held various positions: Usher president for 10 years, Usher for 31 years, Executive Board Member, Sunday School Teacher, Senior Choir, Men's Choir director, bus committee, and was an ordained minister. Ivan had several hobbies and passions including: singing, praying, gardening, word search puzzles and watching the Baltimore Orioles. He leaves to cherish his memories: seven children, Patricia Schools of San Jose, CA; Rubye Wood of San Jose, CA; Ivan Wood, Jr. of San Jose, CA; Diane Smith of Smyrna, DE; Calvin Wood (Nikita) of El Paso, TX; Doug Wood of Felton, DE and Rosalind Wood of Seaford, DE; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, two god-daughters, Teresa Bailey and Barbara Johnson and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma; daughter, Trinity; parents, Felix and Rose Wood and siblings, Arnold, Eric, Eula, Rosalind, Pearl, Grace and Granville.
