Dorothy Verona Hutchins

Obituary of Dorothy Verona Hutchins Dorothy quietly and peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024 at the Holly Center in Salisbury, Maryland. She was surrounded by her loving, supportive and compassionate caregivers and nurses. Dorothy Verona Hutchins was the daughter of the late William J. Hutchins, Sr. and Minnie Elizabeth Henry Hutchins. She was born on Saturday, February 6, 1960 in Easton, Maryland. Dottie, as we affectionately called her, was sixty-four (64) years of age. During her early childhood years, she resided in Goldsboro, Maryland with her parents and other siblings and was cared for at home by her loving family. Dottie was the youngest of thirteen (13) children. Because of her special needs and care required, Dottie was transferred to the Holly Center in Salisbury, Maryland in January 1975 from the Rosewood Center located in Owings Mills, Maryland. There at Holly Center she made her home for the past forty-nine (49) years. Although Dottie never attended school and received a formal education, she received excellent care and teachings from Holly Center and the family never had to worry about her safety, well-being and care. Dorothy was always a very happy, loving and special person who was well respected by everyone with whom she came in contact. She made a lot of devoted friends and was dearly loved by everyone at Holly Center. She loved going on day trips in the van and participating in special activities with her friends at Holly Center. Many times during our visits, we would find Dottie sitting in the office with the staff and nurses. She got great joy from listening to music, church music in particular, and the family singing to her, reading or playing patty cake and other fun games. She would be humming along to the music. We knew without a doubt that Dottie loved the Lord and knew Him for herself in her very own special way. We all have been truly blessed to share and have Dottie in our lives. She will be sorely missed by everyone. Her memories are very precious and dear to our hearts. Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters, Vivian Elizabeth Johnson and Shirly Ann Wright; four brothers, Thomas Edward Hutchins, Alvin Odelious Hutchins, Allen Leon Hutchins and Samuel Noble Hutchins. Left to cherish her memories are: three brothers and three sisters, William Hutchins, Jr. (Dorothy) and Charles Wendell Hutchins (Mary), both of Chestertown, Maryland, Reverend Ronald Hutchins (Jedina) of Hartly, Delaware, Gloria Joyce Brown (William) of Goldsboro, Maryland, Reverend Phyllis Duckery of Goldsboro, Maryland and Cynthia Hutchins Demko (Peter) of Camden Wyoming, Delaware. Dottie has a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, California and Germany. We all loved you, Dottie, but God loved you best.
