Dorothy Gayle

OBITUARY Dorothy Louise Dixon Gayle was born on May 15, 1938 to the late Joshua James and Estella Pollitt Dixon in Farmington, Delaware. Dorothy made the journey to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 8, 2024 in Stafford, Virginia. Dorothy grew up in Farmington and Bridgeville, Delaware. She received her education at Phyllis Wheatley School in Bridgeville, Delaware and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware. Dorothy worked at Maryland Plastics in Federalsburg, Maryland for more than fifteen (15) years. After retiring from Maryland Plastics, she found her favorite job as the Breakfast Bar Hostess at the Hampton Inn, Seaford, Delaware. She loved working with Sal and his family. She loved to cook and bake so this job made her very happy. If you needed a cake, just call “Dorothy.” Her sweet potato biscuits were divine. She also made sure all her children could cook. “Mom” loved her children. She made sure all six of us received our high school diploma. We traveled together, cooked together and just had plain old fun together. She often gave her granddaughters advice that kept them laughing but they cherished the advice. After her sister Vivian passed, we all had to learn to play Scrabble. She really enjoyed playing and played until just a few months ago. Dorothy gave her life to Christ and became a member of Mount Calvary United Methodist Church on September 3, 2006. She served on the Usher Board, was a Communion Stewardess and a member of the Kitchen Ministry. She worked in the church until her health failed and she moved to live with her daughter in Stafford, Virginia. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of forty (40) years, Neville “Ashley” Gayle; daughters, Carolyn Watson (Clement) of Chesapeake, VA, Faye Crenshaw (Ernie) of Stafford, VA; Cathy Murphy (William) of Bridgeville, DE and Betty Waddler of Tampa, FL; sons, David Waddler (Sherrie) of Broken Arrow, OK and Walter Waddler, Jr. (Saraya) of Virginia Beach, VA and one brother, Robert “Bobby” Dixon of Bridgeville, DE. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Will Watson (Jean), Manika Thomas (Joey), Krista Terry (Akeem), Tesheka Just-Buddy (Antwaine), Andre Waddler, Tionell Waddler, Mike Waddler, Deonte Perkins and DJ Perkins. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, her best friend, Doris Gilpin, her neighbors, Randy and Ann Sammons and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson, David Waddler, Jr. Lovingly Submitted ~ The Family
