Dorothy Arlene Eggliston (Jones)

OBITUARY Dorothy Jones Eggliston, daughter of the late Norman and Flossie Jones, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury, Maryland, with her family at her bedside. Born on July 17, 1929 in Jesterville, Maryland, she was educated in the Wicomico County school system. She was an employed at the Nanticoke Seafood Company as a Union Steward until she retired. All her life, she was helpful to her family and friends. She fed the hungry, clothed the naked and provided shelter to the homeless. She also provided transportation if needed. Dorothy lived her life to the fullest. She held every position in the church from the door to the pulpit. She was an usher, choir member, trustee, PPR chairperson, Sunday school teacher, Administrative Board chairperson, Lay speaker, Lay Servant, Communion Steward, member of the United Methodist Women and Food Pantry. She loved the Elzey United Methodist Church family and her Jesterville community family. In her community, she was also a hard worker, serving on the advisory committee, Delmarva Labor Council Landfill and Drainage, where she had the ditches dug to prevent overflow. She had concerns for the safety of the seniors, so the neighborhood watch was started under her leadership (receiving phone calls every morning to check on them). Additionally, she was a member of Chapter 4 Lodge in Nanticoke, Maryland, Bivalve Women’s Auxillary and at Deer's Head Center, she volunteered and then became Chaplain. These are just a few of her accolades and involvements. Dorothy’s hobbies were singing, gardening. fishing, attending Baltimore Oriole baseball games, cooking (especially sweet potato pies) and she loved clothes. She would often say, “Clothes made the woman.” Dorothy leaves precious memories with: her daughter, Rebecca (Lamont) Brickous; grandchildren, Lamont and Tierra Brickous; brother, Theodore “Johnny Crow” (Liz) Jones of Horntown, Virginia; sister-in-law, Hazel Jones of Head of the Creek, Maryland; stepsons, Dorge and George Conway, both of Salisbury, Maryland; faithful and loyal companions/care givers, Shirley Rich, Harland Jones, Jr. (“T.J.”) and a host of nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by brother, Harland Jones, Sr., nieces, Sandra E. Palmer and Carla D. Jones and adopted nephew, Alonzo Birkhead.
