Dorothy J. Dixon

DOVER- Dorothy Jean Dixon, born November 4, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2015 in Dover, Delaware. Jean, as she was known to many, was the only daughter of Fred and Lucille Young Dixon (both deceased) and the sister to three brothers: Alexander, Marvin, and James Donald (deceased). Jean received her primary education in the Baltimore City Public School system, where she developed a lifelong love of learning. In her pursuit of higher education, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Coppin State University and her Master of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University. Jean was a certified reading specialist for adults and children in Maryland and Delaware at various public and parochial schools. Additionally, Jean wrote numerous teaching curriculums on reading and published several children’s books. She was recently remembered by a former student as a strict yet kind educator that pushed her students to their maximum potential. Jean was a member of the Modern Maturity Center and enjoyed the senior community fellowship. She was also a member of the Crossroads Christian Church in Dover, DE. Jean was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Kevin and Camille Lucas, daughter, Dr. Witney H. Rose and her nephew, Jarrett A. Dixon. She leaves loving memories with her daughter: Dr. Quincy A. Rose ( TN.) Grandchildren: Malcolm, Victoria, and Benjamin Lucas ( DE.) Brothers and Sisters-in-law Alexander and Dolores Dixon ( MD.) Marvin and Dorothy L Dixon ( PA.) ; and Robert and Rhodea Martin ( NC.) Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, students and friends. Family and Friends will gather for a public viewing from 10:00-12 noon with the Homegoing celebration immediately afterwards at 12 noon at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W.
