Doris Mae Rochester

Doris Mae Rochester began life’s journey on May 22, 1931 and departed this life, at the age of 88, on January 10, 2020, at the Chester River Medical Center in Chestertown, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Emmons and Beatrice Brown and was one of 12 children. Doris was united in marriage to Wilford Franklin Rochester on December 2, 1950. Three children, Rodney, Regina and Gregory, were born to this union. Doris’ early education began at the country school in the community of Georgetown. She later attended and completed her education at the Henry Highland Garnett School. After graduation, Doris was employed at Vita Foods, Campbell Soup and Dixon Valve, from which she retired. Later she worked in the domestic field for several local families. Doris was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church during her 88 years. She served in several capacities that included: Sunday School Teacher, Usher and Communion Steward. Doris loved to sing. She lent her alto voice to singing groups such as the church choir, Silverleaf Chorus, the Gospelettes, the Rochester Singers and the Gospel Inspirations. Doris enjoyed cooking, a skill she picked up from her mother as a young girl. Her crab cakes were very delicious, which we all enjoyed. Unfortunately, we could not make ours taste as good as hers. She had that special touch. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Emmons and Beatrice Brown; her husband, Wilford Rochester; son, Rodney Rochester; granddaughter, Denita Rochester; sisters, Geneva Roberts, Anna Boyer, Germaine Clarkston and Lorraine Thompson; brothers, “Baby” Wallace, Maurice, John, Rudolph and Emmons Brown. Doris leaves to cherish her memory, her two devoted, loving and faithful children, Regina Rochester (Earl) and Gregory Rochester, Sr. (Amalia); grandchildren, Dwayne Hicks, Rhonda Pinkett, Nakima Rochester, Gregory Rochester, Jr., and Alexander Rochester; great-grand children, Eric Jr., Samiya, Nakaya, Deonni, Ayanah, Jalen, Jeremiah, Jadye and Jadia; sisters, Ernestine Dixon of East Orange, NJ, Erlena Linthicum of Chestertown; niece, Barbara Exum, who was raised with the family; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown, Eleanor Brown, Jean Sisco, Annette Glover, Phyllis Sisco and Brenda Rochester; brothers-in-law, Frederick Linthicum and Earl Carter; god-children, Linwood Clarkston, LaVaughn Smith and Sheila Exum; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
