Doris Loretta Potts

Obituary Doris L. Potts fell asleep in death surrounded by her family on the morning of Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Genesis Elder Care, Chesapeake Woods nursing facility in Cambridge, Maryland. She was born in Easton, Maryland on March 26, 1930 to the late Phillip O. and the late Mary E. Roberts Potts. As a lifelong resident of Talbot County, she graduated from Robert Russa Moton High School on June 4, 1948. After graduation, she attended Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon entering the work force, she was employed with Yale Underwear Company, Inc. for twenty-one years and Wheaton Tubing Company for nineteen years. She retired in 1990. Doris was a devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. church in Easton, Maryland. She served on the Missionary Society, Lay Organization, Usher Board and the American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed hobbies such as knitting, fishing, baking and cooking. Everyone especially enjoyed her pretzel salad. Doris looked forward to afternoons spent with friends playing cards, particularly pinochle. In addition to her parents, Doris was proceeded in death by a son, George “Butchie” Elmer Potts who died in 1962. A sister, Mary C. Potts and a brother, Phillip H. Potts. She was considered the pillar of the Potts family. She leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories, a devoted daughter Cheryl Bowens (husband Edison). Four grandchildren, Kelley DeShields (husband Demond Sr.), Whitney Johnson (husband Harold), Aaron Bowens and Nehemiah Bowens. Five great grandchildren Sidney DeShields, Kolby Lewis, Demond DeShields Jr., Dashawn Johnson and Dashawn Bowens. Two nephews, Darren Potts and Dwayne Potts. Two great nephews, Luzell Sullivan Sr. and Shane Potts. One great niece Keiasha Potts. One great, great nephew Luzell Sullivan Jr. One great, great niece Kohnyae Miles. One great, great, great niece Alaya Sullivan. A very dear niece Janice Brooks. “We had our ups and downs but, we were always there for each other. She really seemed more like a daughter.” Beloved friends were Reginald “Larry” Sullivan, who she viewed as a “son.” Doris Robinson, Mary Morris, Janet Jenkins, and a lifetime friend, James “Sonny” Johnson that she affectionately called “JJ” and a host of many others.
