Donelle L. Wilson

On September 19, 2015, after a brief illness, Donelle ‘TOJO’ Wilson made a peaceful and beautiful transition from earth to glory. He was surrounded by the loves of his life: his daughters, family and music! He was born on February 15, 1954 to Jessie Wilson, Sr. (deceased) and Carrie Wilson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jessie Wilson, Jr. Donelle, fondly known as TOJO, could always be found with a smile, a “Hello Friend”, and a “God Bless You”. TOJO had a heart for music and was known for his harmonious voice and artistic flair! He was very particular about his appearance and was considered one the best-dressed young men in Butlertown. The youngest of three children, TOJO was spoiled by his family, especially his mom, whom he affectionately called ‘Mother’. He was blessed with three beautiful daughters: LaWanda, Melanie and Dedra. TOJO made sure he exposed his girls to the art of poetry and music at a very young age. They were their daddy’s pride and joy! An eclectic artist and poet, TOJO graced the streets of Butlertown and Chestertown and was happy to share his gifts with anyone who would listen. Can you say “Bottle of Bread”!!! TOJO was a frequent artist of many local establishments and was a very familiar face on the campus of Washington College. You could be sure to find TOJO with guitar in hand at the local plazas or downtown Chestertown, especially the Fountain Park. Donelle leaves to cherish his memory: beloved daughters, LaWanda (Horace Johnson) of Salem, NJ; Melanie (Paul Lanier) and Dedra Parsons both of Easton, PA; grandchildren, Jordan Padilla, Justin Padilla, Jaleesa Lanier, Gabrielle Lanier, Arnel Lewis, Khalil Williams and Cameron Parsons; sisters, Willow Mae Fisher of Bear, DE and Sandra (Kenneth Coles) of Baltimore, MD; nieces, Cassandra (Fred Richardson) of Butlertown, MD and Alonna Coles of Baltimore, MD; nephews, Donald Fisher, Jr., Jessie Wilson, III, Danny Fisher (Joan) and Donnell Fisher (Kim); and a hosts of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
