Donald Cannon

Donald Lee Cannon, lovingly known as “Uppey” to his family and friends, departed from this life on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at TidalHeath Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland. Donald was the son of the late John and Edna Cannon, born on October 4, 1945, in Salisbury, Maryland. Donald's journey began in Wicomico County, Maryland, where he attended local public schools. He served in the United States Army and Vietnam with an Honorable Discharge. When he returned home, he began working with Matthew’s Logging in Laurel Delaware he later established his own company, Donald Cannon’s Trucking, LLC. Donald’s passion was driving his own truck and owning his own business, his company was marked by dedication and hard work. He retired in 2015 due to his illness. Donald was a man of simple pleasures he loved fishing, racing cars, the casinos, cooking, his favorite foods to cook were, barbeque goat with the red sauce, spareribs and tough steaks, that you could not chew. He adored working on his 64 Chevy and going to the American Legion and then the “Suga Shack” where he hung out with his friends. Donald was a comedian in his own right, he would make you laugh with his dry jokes. In 1977, Uppey met the love of his life, Audray Comer, they married in 1992 with whom he shared a profound and lasting love. His generosity and willingness to help others were legendary; he was the type of person who would go out of his way to assist anyone in need. Donald leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, by his wife, Audray; one daughter, Latisha Wise (Carlos); four sons, Donald E. Cannon, Dwight Cannon, Will Comer and Alfie Comer (Jorja); several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Ella Mae Bivens; two sisters-in-law, Sharine Townsend (David) and Marrietta Downing; special brothers, David Matthews, and David Townsend; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, his brothers, John and David Cannon; sisters, Alice Smith Bivens, Maribel Polk and Margaret Cross. Donald’s life was a story of resilience, compassion, and unconditional love. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who knew him as a beacon of kindness and generosity. As we say goodbye to “Uppey”, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with moments of joy, companionship, and unwavering commitment to family and friends.
