Dolores Alvertia Montgomery

Obituary Dolores Alvertia Montgomery took her eternal rest on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Denton Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, in Denton, Maryland, at the age of 87. The daughter of the late George and Lena Parker, she was born on February 12, 1937 in Salisbury, Maryland. Dolores was educated in the Wicomico County Public School System and was a member of the Salisbury High School Alumni Association. Dolores was employed at the Holly Center in Salisbury, Maryland, retiring in 1997 after 22 years of service. During this time, she was an active member of AFSCME #1081 (Maryland) where she was a Shop Steward. Devoted to Christ, Dolores was a member of St. James Free Methodist Church of Head of the Creek/Quantico, Maryland, where she sang the Lord’s praises with the Zionettes, for over 50 years. After leaving Salisbury to live with her daughter, Karen, in Ridgely, Maryland, she became a member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Ridgely, Maryland. Dolores was a former member of Success Temple #154 I.B.P.O.E.W of Salisbury, Maryland. She was also a former member of the Household of Ruth #4550 of Salisbury, Maryland and a lifetime member of the Howard J. Purnell Memorial Unit #145 American Legion Auxiliary, where she was honored as Past Unit President. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Henry Montgomery. Although they had no children together, they both entered into the marriage with four children and created a blended family that loved and adored them both, and each other, dearly. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Lamont Spates I (Bertha) of Salisbury, Maryland, Kenneth Spates, Sr. (Shayla) of Salisbury, Maryland, Karen Hayman (Kevin) of Ridgely, Maryland, Thomas Montgomery (Sharon) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Cimone Coulbourn of Germantown, Maryland and Stacy Morton (Anthony) of Woodstock, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Tingle and son, Elliott Montgomery. Dolores was a lover of family and friends and also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as best friends, Mamie Morris and Cathy McGlotten and her caregiver, Genene McGlotten.
