Derrick Elbert Moody

Derrick Elbert Moody was called home to be with the Lord, Friday morning, November 2, 2012 at his home in Chestertown, Maryland after a brief illness. He was 56. Derrick was born the third child of the late Frances Kellum and the late Elbert Moody Jr. on April 16, 1956. Throughout his elementary and adolescent years, he was educated in Kent County Public Schools, graduating from Kent County High School in the class of 1974. Upon his acceptance of Christ at a young age he was taught to demonstrate Christian principles as an active member of Janes United Methodist Church. Derrick worked various jobs. As a youngster he became a newspaper carrier with CEDAR a program extension for Kent County Public Schools which occurred at the end of regular school days, as well as during the summer. As an adult he was employed at Fox's Cannery; later at Friel's Cannery of Queenstown, MD. Derrick enjoyed spending time with his immediate family, attending family dinners, informal gatherings, dancing, and participating at his Crossroad "Club" House daily. Within his Crossroad family, Derrick was a vice president of the executive committee. He achieved awards for leadership, pillars of character, goal achievement and the hardest working award. He enjoyed assisting with and decorating for parties, especially Halloween, his favorite. Derrick assisted with the May Flower Project and Family Night, He also served as a Great Welcome Wagoner. In addition to his parents, Derrick was preceded in death by two brothers: James "Jimmy" Moody and Leroy "Punchie" Moody, and one sister Mayo Brown. Derrick’s memories are left to cherish by one son, Preston Wilcox (Ashley), a grandson, Jahron Wilcox and a granddaughter, Daijah Wilcox of Manahakin, NJ; step-mother, Joyce B. Moody of Chestertown; four brothers: Tyrone Moody (Joyce), Michael Wilson and Terrence Moody of Chestertown; Larry Moody (Ethel) of Newark, DE; one brother-in-law, Gregory Brown of Havre de Grace; two sisters: Eve Demby of Havre de Grace and Joivette Moody of Chestertown; one sister-in law, JoAnne of Wilmington, DE; six aunts: including a very special aunt, Clara Miller (Leonard) who assisted with Derrick's rearing, Shirley Hamilton (Melvin) of Chestertown; Barbara. Dorsey (Charles), Diana Flakes (Charles) of Worton; Virginia Perkins of New Castle and Aseneth Walker of Wilmington, DE; two uncles: Derek Moody of Worton, and Charles Hance of Baltimore; an adopted uncle and aunt, John and Shirley Fenwick of Baltimore, seven nephews, eight nieces, sixteen great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, extended family and friends. His love for family, gracious humor, and elaborate story telling will be sorely missed. Although deeply saddened by his departure we are thankful for the earthly time God lent him to us.
